Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge – April

I joined up with the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge for the motivation to move projects forward, and perhaps even finish a few. So far, so good!

Participants publicly posted a list of 10 numbered projects. Each month a number is drawn, and the corresponding project is worked on. There are linkups where projects can be posted and participants can cheer one another on.

In March, number 4 was drawn. My number 4 was to sew pajama bottoms, and you can see that I did that by clicking here for my post that shows that I completed this project.

For April, the number 9 was drawn. My number 9 is to make a table runner. You can see my project list here.

I am thinking about making the Golden Peaks block into a table runner. Julie Cefalu, of The Crafty Quilter, shared a great tutorial of this block, and it looks like fun to play with.

Besides yard work, and other life distractions, I have been working on the 365 Monster.

Just so ya know.

Progress is slow going, but still progress.

Who knows? Maybe I can get this thing finished this month!

Maybe.

I am linking up at Dreamworthy Quilts. Come on over to see other participants!

Have fun and carry on!

Folded Corner Pincushion

Julie Cefalu, the designer behind The Crafty Quilter, posted a free tutorial on making a folded corner pincushion.

These are super cute and I simply had to make some for quick gifts!

One can easily make these from scraps, too! That is what I did.

The little pockets are great for a needle threader, clips, and a bobbin with thread!

These are easy to make, but ya might want to be sure that you start with the correct size square, if ya want yours to be the same size as Julie’s.

Right from the start, I picked up the wrong size square and then wondered why my pincushion wasn’t the right size. Ha, ha!

I stuffed mine with both polyfill and crushed walnut shells, and I hand sewed my opening closed.

My photos aren’t the best, so I suggest you hop on over to Julie’s site and check out her tutorial. She also offers a boxed corner version…a version that I’d like to make as well.

Julie’s instructions are clear, thorough, and show great photos!

Cookie Plate Crumb Catcher

I needed a Christmas gift, so I took a break from making the 365 blocks to make Julie Cefalu’s Cookie Plate Crumb Catcher.

Cookie Plate Crumb Catcher - Table Topper

Julie’s patterns and tutorials are easy to follow!

I used the bonus half square triangles that I made from the pattern to create the wreath design for the back of the quilt.

I know that you may not be able to see from the photos, but the blue is a sparkly fabric…just right for Christmas!

Perhaps you would like to make one, too! Or maybe you would like to make one of Julie’s other patterns…she has great gift ideas!

The oak leaves haven’t dropped yet, but they are turning. I think they are pretty cool!

Face Masks 2

Since I wasn’t happy with the pattern that I used previously, I tried another tutorial for making face masks.

I am much happier!

Covid-19 Face Masks

I like Julie’s (The Crafty Quilter) tutorial.  It is well written, has options, and I can leave it on the screen (once loaded) without internet access.  I am rural, so internet access isn’t always available.  Therefore, I limit video time, such as You Tube.

I choose to use a different fabric for the reverse side.  This allows the wearer to know which side he/she has been wearing towards the face.

I also choose to stitch the ties down instead of threading them through the casing.  I think it is easier to use them.

Disappearing Nine Patch Completed

I have completed my version of the Disappearing Nine Patch from  Julie Cefalu’s Disappearing Nine Patch Quilt Along.

I decided to quilt an edge to edge called Mountain Laurel.  I am not a frame quilter, but I am so happy because I had no tension issues whatsoever!

I am also happy to have another finish!

This was a fun quilt along and it is an easy quilt to make!  Great for gift giving, or if you are looking for something to cozy up with this winter!
