Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge – May

I joined up with the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge for the motivation to move projects forward, and perhaps even finish a few. It has been fun and I’ve even accomplished a few things!

Last January, participants publicly posted a list of 10 numbered projects. Each month a number is drawn, and the corresponding project is worked on. There are linkups where projects can be posted and participants can cheer one another on.

The number 5 was drawn for May. My number 5 is to make Unicorn pillows. You can see my project list here.

I believe I purchased this pattern many moons ago while out shopping somewhere with my daughter.

I did a quick Google check, and The Magical Unicorn Quilt pattern is still available from a variety of places.

The Magical Unicorn

I am sure that I had grand plans of making the quilt, but that has long ago gone by the wayside.

However, in looking over the pattern this week, I see it has at least 111 pieces to it!

Whoa!

I am not making pillows, unless I simplify and reduce the size of the pattern (actually doable but will require some effort).

It does contain five sizes, so I am still going to make this unicorn, but in the smallest wall hanging size.

I have begun tracing pieces onto a fusible web (Steam-A-Seam).

That may be as far as I get this month, but that is moving forward!

Who doesn’t need unicorns and rainbows in their life?

Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge – April Update

For the Chookshed Stitchers challenge in April, the number 9 was drawn. My number 9 is to make a table runner.

I decided to make a table runner using the Golden Peaks block. Julie Cefalu, of The Crafty Quilter, shared a great tutorial of this block.

The block is versatile and fun to play with.

I like every layout that I tried, but I did finally choose one.

The blocks are sewn together, and pinned into a quilt sandwich waiting for quilting.

365 Challenge Quilt is Finished!

It has been a long time coming, since January 2022 in fact, but this UFO is done!

365 Challenge

365 Challenge

I don’t recommend doing ‘fancy’ free motion quilting on such a large quilt made from prints. The quilting doesn’t show up well.

But I can’t help myself sometimes!

365 Challenge

And I got a lot of much needed practice!

365 Challenge

And with practice, comes confidence!

Some of these photos show in-progress.

But most of these photos show the finished quilt.

Finishing up this baby has removed clutter and stress from my brain!

Feels so good!

365 Challenge

These are the thoughts that I had in December and they are still valid:

I gained confidence in my piecing skills. I also learned about contrast and value. I do think it helps to be a self motivated person, but there are Facebook groups to inspire and encourage members.

It also helps to remember that the 365 Challenge Project is not a race. There are people who complete their projects in 2 years instead of one. That’s okay!

Don’t compare your project with someone else’s project. I didn’t follow directions, and added sashing to my variation. I should have planned it better, but I am happy with it! Each project is unique to the maker! Have fun!

Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge – April

I joined up with the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge for the motivation to move projects forward, and perhaps even finish a few. So far, so good!

Participants publicly posted a list of 10 numbered projects. Each month a number is drawn, and the corresponding project is worked on. There are linkups where projects can be posted and participants can cheer one another on.

In March, number 4 was drawn. My number 4 was to sew pajama bottoms, and you can see that I did that by clicking here for my post that shows that I completed this project.

For April, the number 9 was drawn. My number 9 is to make a table runner. You can see my project list here.

I am thinking about making the Golden Peaks block into a table runner. Julie Cefalu, of The Crafty Quilter, shared a great tutorial of this block, and it looks like fun to play with.

Besides yard work, and other life distractions, I have been working on the 365 Monster.

Just so ya know.

Progress is slow going, but still progress.

Who knows? Maybe I can get this thing finished this month!

Maybe.

Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge – March Update

I joined up with the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge for the motivation to move projects forward, and perhaps even finish a few.

Participants publicly posted a list of 10 numbered projects. Each month a number is drawn, and the corresponding project is worked on. There are linkups where projects can be posted and participants can cheer one another on.

For March, the number 4 was drawn. You can see my full list of projects by clicking here. My number 4 is to sew pajama bottoms.

Pajamas

I thought that I had enough fabric for full length pajama bottoms, but I ended up with a mid-calf length. That is fine with me, since that is the length that I wear the most often.

Pajamas

These are soft and comfy, and I am really pleased with them!

When the weather was sunny, but not too hot, I spent time outdoors raking, cleaning up woodpiles and other yard chores.

On the cool and wet days, I enjoyed bread baking and genealogy.

The Hubster and I also took a trip to visit with our son and his fam…so much fun! I got plenty of lovins to fill my cup!

The downside of the month is that my sewjo mojo got up and went. I don’t know where, but I hope to see her back soon! Possibly she left due to a toothache. That problem will be remedied this afternoon when I visit the dentist. The offending tooth is soon to be removed! I am so looking forward to this!

In January, number 6 was drawn. My number 6 was a Santa project, and you can see that post by clicking here.

In February, number 2 was drawn. I moved my 365 Monster quilt forward in progress, and that felt good. You can see that post by clicking here.
