Charms from the 90’s Update

I settled on a star layout for the half-square triangles made from the 1990’s charm squares.

I don’t have a large wall, or the floor space, to lay out blocks, but we all make do with what we do have.

The stars are set with squares and this was simple to stitch up.

I had enough parts left over (including the odd sized half-square that I threw in the parts department and retrieved) to make two more star blocks for the back.

All marked and pinned.

I have chosen to do easy cross-hatching with a walking foot.

Nothing fancy to see here.

Charms from the 90’s

If you have ever participated in charm square exchanges, then you know that you should expect surprises.

I participated in 4 inch charm square swaps back in the 90’s.

Some aren’t even quilter’s cotton. And some were cut with scissors and barely resemble a square.

I am sure that you have used your swap squares years ago, but I still have loads of these.

90's Charm Squares

I am not fond of most of this fabric, so I am going to take Bonnie Hunter’s suggestion and cut fabric that I don’t like into smaller pieces.

90's Charm Squares

I decided to pair a light and a dark to make half-square triangles. I am not squaring blocks first.

After pressing and then squaring, I am ending up with 3.5 inch squares (and one 3.25 inch square that will go into the parts department).

31 blocks made so far.

I have no plan for the setting as yet. That should be the fun part, since there are so many ways to set this type of block.

Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge – March Update

I joined up with the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge for the motivation to move projects forward, and perhaps even finish a few.

Participants publicly posted a list of 10 numbered projects. Each month a number is drawn, and the corresponding project is worked on. There are linkups where projects can be posted and participants can cheer one another on.

For March, the number 4 was drawn. You can see my full list of projects by clicking here. My number 4 is to sew pajama bottoms.

Pajamas

I thought that I had enough fabric for full length pajama bottoms, but I ended up with a mid-calf length. That is fine with me, since that is the length that I wear the most often.

Pajamas

These are soft and comfy, and I am really pleased with them!

When the weather was sunny, but not too hot, I spent time outdoors raking, cleaning up woodpiles and other yard chores.

On the cool and wet days, I enjoyed bread baking and genealogy.

The Hubster and I also took a trip to visit with our son and his fam…so much fun! I got plenty of lovins to fill my cup!

The downside of the month is that my sewjo mojo got up and went. I don’t know where, but I hope to see her back soon! Possibly she left due to a toothache. That problem will be remedied this afternoon when I visit the dentist. The offending tooth is soon to be removed! I am so looking forward to this!

In January, number 6 was drawn. My number 6 was a Santa project, and you can see that post by clicking here.

Santa Door Draft

In February, number 2 was drawn. I moved my 365 Monster quilt forward in progress, and that felt good. You can see that post by clicking here.

I am linking up at Dreamworthy Quilts. Come on over to see other participants!

Have fun and carry on!
