Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge – September Update

I fell behind in the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge, but I am moving projects forward from my challenge list.

I am happy to share that June’s project, #10, really is finished! I found a frame that I like so here ya go:

In July, the #1 was drawn, and my #1 is my Checkerboard Rails project. The design is from Bonnie Hunter. I wanted to use up some of my hand-dyes and I am loving how this is turning out!

This baby is now a flimsy!

#3 was drawn in August. This plush owl kit from Connecting Threads has been taking up space in the sewing studio for who knows how long.

I have all three owls cut out and partly sewn, so this project is on the move!

September’s number is #7. My #7 is the Garden Baskets project. I used my hand-dyes for this project as well.

(There are links at the end of this post that share my progress up to this point.)

Garden Baskets

I got bored with this, and it has really slowed me down. I must’ve been delirious when I decided that I would hand stitch a couple of hundred leaves in the borders.

Putting Garden Baskets on my challenge list was a great idea, since I am moving this forward!

As you can see from the photos, I have finished one border and am making good progress on a second one.

October’s project is notebook covers. It is the last of this year’s Chookshed Stitchers Challenge 2024. I am taking a trip to see family shortly, and may not get to this last number from the challenge list. At least not in October.

If the Chookshed Stitchers Challenge link shows up before I go on vacation, then I will link up with other challenge participants over at Dreamworthy Quilts. You might like to check it out!

Have fun and carry on!

Fall Moon Embroidery Update

My Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge for June was number 10. I didn’t get it finished, but I did work on it in August and I have finished it.

Fall Moon Embroidery

The embroidered piece is dimensional, but hard to show with a flat photograph.

The tree is a wool thread, and the rest of the piece is stitched with rayon threads from EdMar.

I’ve made mistakes, but I am happy with the results.

Fall Moon Embroidery

The piece is finished! It has only been on the to-do list since at least 2021 (and I have had this pattern for a whole longer)!

Fall Moon Embroidery

A press, a frame, and then I can have it on display for the fall season!

The Magical Unicorn – Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge August Update

I missed the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenges for July and August.

Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge

I decided that I wanted to work with color, rather than start a new project (Project #3 on my list), so I went back to my unfinished May challenge, The Magical Unicorn.

You can see my project list posted here.

I went from deciding to downsize to a pillow, then upsize to the smallest wall hanging.

The Magical Unicorn

And now there are two wall hangings!

One is just a bit more saturated in the fabric color choices.

The Magical Unicorn

All of the fusing is finished. Yes, there is some shadow showing under some of the pieces. This does not bother me at all. There will be machine stitching and quilting to handle that.

It was very uplifting to work on these two wall hangings! Lots of color, flowers, rainbows, unicorns, and fairies! Sometimes adulting is very hard, and we all need to find that inner child again!
