December ushered in sickness for Hubby and I. I haven’t been this sick in years!
This month, I am truly grateful for the ability to take a full deep breath, and breathe through one’s nose!
I wasn’t so sure that I would reach my 365 Challenge Goal for December, but I worked hard at it, and all the blocks are finished!
The entire project has been pieced on my little travel Gem Gold! I am so proud of her!
I have pieced all of the blocks together, and I have a 100″ square flimsy!
Some of the fabrics have more green color than the photos show…I cannot seem to get the color just right, but you have the general idea.
Next up, piecing the backing. The 365 will be marinating in the closet until such a time as I deem ready for quilting.
The flimsy is full of a bazillion seams. I don’t think custom quilting is the way to go, but I need to think on that. Sometimes I can’t help myself!
Then there are all of the scraps to deal with. They have been spread all over the sewing studio for a year. I can’t wait to get the room tidied up!
Would I recommend this project? Sure!
I gained confidence in my piecing skills. I also learned about contrast and value. I do think it helps to be a self motivated person, but there are Facebook groups to inspire and encourage members.
It also helps to remember that the 365 Challenge Project is not a race. There are people who complete their projects in 2 years instead of one. That’s okay!
Don’t compare your project with someone else’s project. I didn’t follow directions, and added sashing to my variation. I should have planned it better, but I am happy with it! Each project is unique to the maker! Have fun!

I had enough yardage that I just pieced 3 lengths together, so that is now on a hangar in the closet, too. Quilting? No idea at this point! Merry Christmas! 🙂

OMG Laura! First I am sorry that you both got sick. No fun we cancelled our trip to the Coast just because of the crud going around. AND that quilt! What a beauty! What an Heirloom. Do they do the 365 quilt each year? How did you go about selecting the color way especially when one doesn’t know how it will end?
Merry Christmas to you and your family! Hugs

The crud is everywhere! At any rate…we are putting that behind us now!
Yes, the 365 runs every year (so far, anyway). You can choose the colors that Kathryn Kerr originally made her design with, or come up with your own spin on it. The key is value and contrast. There are plenty of examples on the Facebook page as well as on her website. It isn’t a mystery…you know the basic design. Kathryn posts a block a day…she tells you if it is light or dark.
Merry Christmas! 🙂

My daughter has a Gem Gold, and I have a Gem Platinum – both were gifts from my mom. They are great little machines, and I use mine when I go to sew days with friends. Your finished your quilt up beautifully! Hope you two are feeling better soon!

Thank you…we are mending…slower than we’d like, but we are getting there!

It will be a quiet Christmas for Hubby and I. Roads are closed…flights and buses canceled. The weather is just too dangerous for any travel. Family will be making extra effort when it is safer to do so. I hope you can celebrate with your family!
You stay warm as well! Merry Christmas!🙂
