The Magical Unicorn Update

I am not the greatest quilter in the world, so when it comes to backing, I choose a busy print.

I couldn’t find anything that I wanted to use in my stash.

No matter how big and varied the stash is, it is never right for the current project.

The Magical Unicorn

I had no intention of shopping and I had an ombre fabric in the stash.

Solid. Shows every boo-boo.

I went with it anyway.

The sister quilt isn’t started yet. I’ve got a couple of graduations and a garden to attend to, but it is on the radar. I will probably quilt it much the same so that I don’t have to think about how to quilt it (a huge procrastinating road block of mine).

The Magical Unicorn Update

The Magical Unicorn

The unicorn wall hangings have come out to play.

I started this project in May 2024.

The Magical Unicorn

This seemed like the perfect project to play with the shiny rayon threads in my stash.

I know that the camera doesn’t show the shine, so you will have to take my word that these threads worked out great!

A bit of metallic thread to make the horn look special is fun!

A closeup to share that the machine embroidery is finished.

Not only have I finished the machine embroidery on both wall hangings, but I have sandwiched them both in preparation for machine quilting, too!

The Magical Unicorn – Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge August Update

I missed the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenges for July and August.

Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge

I decided that I wanted to work with color, rather than start a new project (Project #3 on my list), so I went back to my unfinished May challenge, The Magical Unicorn.

You can see my project list posted here.

I went from deciding to downsize to a pillow, then upsize to the smallest wall hanging.

The Magical Unicorn

And now there are two wall hangings!

One is just a bit more saturated in the fabric color choices.

The Magical Unicorn

All of the fusing is finished. Yes, there is some shadow showing under some of the pieces. This does not bother me at all. There will be machine stitching and quilting to handle that.

It was very uplifting to work on these two wall hangings! Lots of color, flowers, rainbows, unicorns, and fairies! Sometimes adulting is very hard, and we all need to find that inner child again!

I am linking up with other challenge participants over at Dreamworthy Quilts. You might like to check it out!

Have fun and carry on!
