Teapot Cozy

Have you ever made a teapot cozy? Me neither.

One of my sisters asked me if I would make seven of them for her.

She doesn’t sew. I do.

So off I go to the internet again!

I found a free pattern at the Embroidery Library.

I don’t own an embroidery sewing machine. However, this looked like a pattern that I could adapt for my own purposes. I like that it shows me how to measure and make my own pattern to fit the teapot.

However, I don’t live close to my sister, so I am making a prototype that I can deliver to her when I get to town (about 90 miles away). She can take the prototype home and text me later to let me know the adjustments that I need to make.

While making my pattern and prototype, I discovered that this is not as difficult as I imagined. In fact, it is an easy project!

Happy, happy!

As you can see from the photo, my prototype is a bit small for my teapot. And I used a piece of string for the closure. Finished cozies will have ribbons for closures.

Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge – March Update

I joined up with the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge for the motivation to move projects forward, and perhaps even finish a few.

Participants publicly posted a list of 10 numbered projects. Each month a number is drawn, and the corresponding project is worked on. There are linkups where projects can be posted and participants can cheer one another on.

For March, the number 4 was drawn. You can see my full list of projects by clicking here. My number 4 is to sew pajama bottoms.

Pajamas

I thought that I had enough fabric for full length pajama bottoms, but I ended up with a mid-calf length. That is fine with me, since that is the length that I wear the most often.

Pajamas

These are soft and comfy, and I am really pleased with them!

When the weather was sunny, but not too hot, I spent time outdoors raking, cleaning up woodpiles and other yard chores.

On the cool and wet days, I enjoyed bread baking and genealogy.

The Hubster and I also took a trip to visit with our son and his fam…so much fun! I got plenty of lovins to fill my cup!

The downside of the month is that my sewjo mojo got up and went. I don’t know where, but I hope to see her back soon! Possibly she left due to a toothache. That problem will be remedied this afternoon when I visit the dentist. The offending tooth is soon to be removed! I am so looking forward to this!

In January, number 6 was drawn. My number 6 was a Santa project, and you can see that post by clicking here.

Santa Door Draft

In February, number 2 was drawn. I moved my 365 Monster quilt forward in progress, and that felt good. You can see that post by clicking here.

I am linking up at Dreamworthy Quilts. Come on over to see other participants!

Fabric Jar Grippers

I took some time out to make a few jar grippers. Quite a few…these will be going into my gift box for when I need a quick gift to give.

Fabric Jar Grippers

I used rubber shelf liner that I cut into 5.5″ squares. I meant to cut it into 6″ squares, but I screwed up. No matter, you can cut to any size that you want to work with.

I also cut two pieces of 5.5″ squares of cotton fabric. With right sides together, and the shelf liner in between, sew around the edges and leave an opening for turning.

Turn and topstitch all the way around.

You are done!

There are a lot of tutorials online, especially on YouTube and Pinterest. Besides the differences in the size of the squares, other variations include a magnet and a ribbon for hanging, and some only use one square of fabric and the shelf liner.

Easy peasy, quick and useful.

This can be a scrapbuster, too, if you save chunks of scraps, as opposed to strips.

You might even want to make a smaller size and keep it with your hand sewing for the times that you may need a little help pulling the needle through your project.
