Studio Makeover Update

In a previous post, I shared that the Hubster and I were painting and changing out the flooring in my sewing studio.

One would think the green paint was very bright, and it was, but it absorbed light, and as it cheery as it was, I needed more light (I am not getting any younger).

Also, the flooring was chipped and dented. The black and white was fun, but time to go.

The room is now painted with two soft gray colors (The same as the rest of the house, but keeping it the same makes small repairs easier…only two paint colors to keep on hand.).

I offered to help, but the Hubster did the flooring by himself, and I am very grateful!

That flooring was a lot of work!

I wasted no time moving back in!

There are still things to do. The Hubster is going to custom cut peg board to fit a couple of odd angles and the rulers that are piled on the sewing table will be hung up.

The tv is not a ‘smart’ tv…I can play dvd movies with it, but no streaming, no cable, no YouTube… unless I hook my pc up to it. It might get replaced one of these days.

I spent a few days cutting fabric for pillowcase kits.

I am so happy to say that eleven cardboard bolts of various lengths of fabric are now empty and out the door!

And those pillowcases will be sewn and given as donations and gifts.

The plan is to use the fabric this year, not simply pet it. Ha, ha!

So this is my big declutter/organization project this year! And it is already done!

How are y’all doing with your declutter/organization plans?

Have fun and carry on!

Chookshed Stitchers 2024 January Mid-Month Check-in

It is time for a mid-month check-in.

If you read the Declutter post, then you know that I am following Karen Brown’s declutter challenge.

I have purchased some pencil boxes to keep markers and needles in, rather than having them slide all over the drawers where I had them. I have also sent a very full box of patterns and books out of the building. I need to come up with a better way to store quilting rulers that are not used on a regular basis. I think I have a plan for those that will work for me.

Things are getting tidied up, but, I have no photos to share, so you will have to take my word for it.

I look forward to Karen’s challenge every year. Her methods can also be easily applied to other areas of the home…it doesn’t have to stop with the sewing studio. For instance, one of Karen’s declutter challenges is about cleaning up your emails (I need this one!). I recommend taking this challenge if you have a need for a bit of tidying up!

I am also following 30 Days of Yoga with Adriene on YouTube.

I am far from graceful, but I do my best, and the stretching sure has been good for me!

There are definitely no photos of this! Again, you will just have to take my word for it!

I joined the Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge, and the number of the month is 6.

That means that my project for the month is this Santa Door Draft kit (I know the photo is blurry, but you can still see what the project is):

Santa Door Draft

I don’t know where this kit came from (I didn’t purchase it), but it has been hanging out in my studio for years. It just gets tossed from basket to basket, and I need to get this made!

Sure, I could just toss the kit into a donation box, but for some unexplainable and unreasonable reason, I just have to make it myself.

I will be brutally honest. I don’t like this kit. At all. The parts are not proportionate and the instructions are not easy to follow.

Santa Door Draft

Getting this far has been a bit of a bloody and sweaty challenge!

I will not be defeated!

I am linking up with the Check-in Party here.

Have fun and carry on!

Roll Up Sewing Machine Mat Organizer

I have been wanting to make an organization mat for my sewing machine.

Not that I needed one. I just wanted one.

Roll Up Sewing Machine Mat Organizer

I found that the pockets really come in handy for my readers, Jack the Ripper, the tv remote and my cell phone.

It can hold much more. Maybe I should put the M&Ms in there!

The yellow ribbon that you see tucked into a pocket is in case I’d like to roll up my tools in these handy pockets, and take the mat with me to a class, or perhaps to a sewing buddy’s home.

Thank you to Melissa Mortenson for sharing your easy and fun organizer pattern!

Maybe you would like to make one, too! It would make a nice gift for a fellow sew sister! And it is customizable!
