Studio Makeover Update

In a previous post, I shared that the Hubster and I were painting and changing out the flooring in my sewing studio.

One would think the green paint was very bright, and it was, but it absorbed light, and as it cheery as it was, I needed more light (I am not getting any younger).

Also, the flooring was chipped and dented. The black and white was fun, but time to go.

The room is now painted with two soft gray colors (The same as the rest of the house, but keeping it the same makes small repairs easier…only two paint colors to keep on hand.).

I offered to help, but the Hubster did the flooring by himself, and I am very grateful!

That flooring was a lot of work!

I wasted no time moving back in!

There are still things to do. The Hubster is going to custom cut peg board to fit a couple of odd angles and the rulers that are piled on the sewing table will be hung up.

The tv is not a ‘smart’ tv…I can play dvd movies with it, but no streaming, no cable, no YouTube… unless I hook my pc up to it. It might get replaced one of these days.

I spent a few days cutting fabric for pillowcase kits.

I am so happy to say that eleven cardboard bolts of various lengths of fabric are now empty and out the door!

And those pillowcases will be sewn and given as donations and gifts.

The plan is to use the fabric this year, not simply pet it. Ha, ha!

So this is my big declutter/organization project this year! And it is already done!

How are y’all doing with your declutter/organization plans?

Have fun and carry on!

HQAL February 2025

I am delighted to share progress with the HQAL group! Knowing that I have to be accountable to you gals has definitely had an impact on me!

Here is where I left off with my embroidery last month:

In the meantime, painting has been happening!

I was sad to see the rest of the green go, and sadder to see the reminder go (somedays I really need it)!

However, my creative daughter says that she can make a new reminder for me, and that makes me joyful!

The Hubster will finish up the trim (I only do the sloppy stuff) and then we work on the floor (or maybe only he works on the floor).

It has been very cold outside!

However, the sun did show up for a couple of days. It didn’t warm up, but the snow disappeared for a time.

Winter Home

I have finished the next block, except for washing and blocking. I may just wait until all of the blocks are stitched before I do that.

The next cutie bee is traced and on the frame.

I hope to finish it before checking in next month!

This Hand Quilt Along is an opportunity for hand quilters and piecers to share and motivate one another. We post every three weeks, to show our progress and encourage one another.  If you have a hand quilting project and would like to join our group contact Kathy at the link below.

Bonnie Hunter Silk Path Update

During my sewing studio declutter, I chose to work on Bonnie Hunter’s Silk Path quilt project.

Why choose a project to work on during a declutter session? Karen Brown suggests a timer for the declutter and a project for the reward from decluttering.

I think it is a great idea!

You are looking at 549 completed strip sets made from scraps!

I am so happy to move a lot of these brown scraps out of a drawer and into a project!

I will be turning these strip sets into blocks, but that is for another day.

I have done some decluttering, but the Hubster and I decided it was time for a redo.

There will be more than just some decluttering happening!

This is the last time we will see the lime green, black and white.

2025 Declutter Challenge Sewing Studio

Upon closer inspection, you can see that the flooring is worn out.

Boring peel and stick flooring will replace the black and white, and the walls will be painted a super light grey. It will be better for crafting and sewing (and older eyes). The green absorbed the light and the room will be brighter when it is redone.

Have fun and carry on!
