I am happy to share a finish before the end of the year!
Vintage Ornaments is now a completed quilt!
I have a few close pictures of the machine quilting for you. I have used decorative quilting, and background filler quilting (to show off the ornaments).
Except for the binding, this was a fun project! I have trouble sewing a binding on completely by machine. I need more practice…especially with the corners! If anyone has tips for me, please share! Meanwhile, I will keep practicing, and, who knows, maybe one day I will master it!

Hi Laura! What a great finish and what a way to end the year. Your quilting looks beautiful. I can’t offer any tips for machine binding as I always sew mine down by hand. I’m sure other friends will offer tips though. I love how this turned out! ~smile~ Roseanne

I have always finished my binding by hand, too, Roseanne. I think it would be great to learn to machine sew binding better than just adequately for utility quilts and other projects.

Love it … I have been wanting to see the finished project. The quilting is beautiful! Love how the ornaments almost look like they are sitting on top of the quilt, and the blank spaces are anything but blank with the quilting holding the layers together.

I keep examining your photos and am in awe of your machine free motion quilting skills and ability to decide designs to use and where to use them.
The vintage ornaments themselves are lovely, too.
Just curious, what are the dimensions on this?

Not almost, Laura. The binding is done as well.
It takes me a while to decide how I am going to quilt an area, but once I know, I move right along. I enjoy fmq. It is the small background filler (stippling in this case) that help those ornaments to stand out.
The quilt is small…about 40″ x 58″. I should have taken a photo of the back. The label is done, and I really like the backing fabric…it is trees.

Would love to see the backing and label and consequent backing-quilting if you get a chance to photograph it.

The quilting looks great! All that texture really adds to the quilt. I bind almost everything by machine now. The key is in the pinning. I’ll email you the details.

I do not own, or rent, such a long arm. The fmq is all done with my Janome 6500.
