I didn’t finish my Chookshed Stitchers 2024 April Challenge. I had chosen a block called Golden Peaks from Julie Cefalu, The Crafty Quilter, to make a table runner. In that post, I shared several layouts.
I left off at the pin basting stage.
The table runner is now finished!
I have never machine quilted with a serpentine stitch before.
I do like how it turned out, but I need to be more careful with puckering on the back, even with using the walking foot. Puckering is not an issue that I normally have, and there wasn’t enough of it to make me use Jack.
Have fun and carry on!
What a pretty runner, front and back! Did you like the serpentine stitch? It’s one of my favorites.

I think I might need to loosen my tension a bit, since even with a walking foot, the fabric seemed ‘pushed’ on the back. I do like the looks of it, but not my execution. Yet. š

You could also try lengthening the serpentine stitch, stretch it out a bit, and adjust your stitch length. That might help too?

I was thinking of this also, Wendy! Thank you, I will try this the next time that I decide to use this method! š

Laura, firstā¦ this is a very nice summer table runner. Love the bicycle fabric. .. what does this meanā¦ āā¦ to make me use Jackā? It need some time, but you will love soon quilting with walking foot and Wendys information is super! You can wave with your hands as wellā¦ moving the fabric. Anyhow it is a super table runner and the fabric on the back is very modern. Love this.

Hi Eva! ‘…make me use Jack’ means ‘Jack the Ripper’, also known as the seam ripper. Yes, sounds like Wendy is giving me great advice and I will follow it the next time that I try this. Thank you for stopping by and complimenting! š

I love your runner and it all looks like it should have been fine. I have found 2 things can sometimes throw a wrench into the backings – the quality of the backing fabric and the batting. Maybe those weren’t your problems, but a bit of washing and drying flat may just fix it!
