Boxy Bags

I was blessed with a glorious three days off!  What to do, what to do?  It isn’t that I don’t have anything to do, it is that I am behind on anything and everything.  Three days is precious…I don’t want to waste it.

So I began cleaning/reorganizing my sewing studio.  I say began, because…well…it quickly became overwhelming.  So instead, I cleaned just enough to work on a project.  Ha, ha!

I found a small tote full of 6″ squares of hand dyed fabric.  This stuff is old and I want to use it up and empty the tote!  Therefore, I cut the 6″ squares into 3″ squares and really filled up that tote.  Sheesh!

Hand Dyed Scraps

I’ve been wanting to make boxy bags for quite a while.  An upcoming trip to Hawaii (2 more months and I’m there!) is just the push that I needed.

Pink Stitches has a great tutorial for these boxy pouch bags and it is easy to change the size if one wants to (which I did).

I’ll be making more of these.  They will make nice gifts.

And I’ve barely made a dent in that tote of hand dyed squares!

Bionic Needle Case and Dumpling Dish

I have been wanting to organize my sewing machine needles for quite some time.

When I saw RipStitcher’s pattern at Craftsy, I knew the time had come!

I also received a bonus pattern for the cute little Dumpling Dish.

The Bionic Needle Case is an easy project and I made one for a gift, as well as one for myself.  I did add a Velcro closure to mine.

The Dumpling Dish was a bit of a challenge for me.  However, it is worth it!  I love how it opens up into a round shape.

I have Clover Wonder Clips in mine, but it could hold any number of small items.

These are cute and useful little items to any sewing studio, and make great gifts!

Aunt Sukey Spins Off – Machine Quilting

“As time goes by, I realize that I do trust the wind.  And I often write my songs for myself.” -David Friedman

“How did it get so late so soon?” -Dr. Seuss

“It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important.”-Antoine de Saint-Exupery, The Little Prince

I have neglected my blog.  I like blogging, so what can I say for myself?

A demanding job, apathy, depression, a time-out, a boring existence, self-pity, frustration at the lack of control of my life….

Sheesh!  You’d think somebody died or something!  Get a grip!  Change the negative brain recording!

I’m shaping up.  Mentally, that is.  Many of those emotions I’ve listed above apply to a big project.  That would be my Aunt Sukey Spins Off project.

Yup.  I became bored and frustrated with it, and it became a monster sitting on my shoulders and whispering great doses of guilt into my ears.

I don’t understand myself.  Why…oh why…do I insist on complicating things.  I love the acronym, KISS…keep it simple, Stupid.  I love it, but have yet to apply it to myself.

Here I’ve made this classic traditional red and white quilt.  So far, so good.  But I can’t decide how to quilt it, and I go all out on the thing.  And then I become frustrated.  The quilting doesn’t fit the quilt.

There are times when I really should take a cue from my good friend Judy Butcher.  She knows how to quilt a traditional quilt.

Alas, I’m committed.

We’ll see how it turns out.

In spite of myself.
