Mima Mounds

Hubby and I had the opportunity to visit with our kids and grandkids for the Independence holiday.

We had a fantastic time!

Mima Mounds July 2018

One of my favorite things we did was to visit the Mima Mounds Natural Area Preserve.  I found it to be a wonderful place when one is in need of  serenity and a gentle hike.

The Mima Mounds are a mystery.  There are many theories, but its formation remains unknown.

There are prairie flowers, lichen, butterflies and birds to enjoy.  Spring would be a great time to see wildflowers in bloom, but anytime is lovely for a peaceful stroll.

July OMG 2018

Time to be bold and announce my new goal for July.

I’m not really going to be all that bold this month, since I am making time for family and sunny days!

I will be piecing three 5 inch blocks for the Squared Away Sampler project.  You can see my progress so far this year by clicking here.

My next goal for the month is to make progress on my President’s book.  Nope, not the President of the United States, but blocks that were given to me for serving my term as a quilt guild president.

I left off turning the blocks into pages for a fabric memory book that I can use for a keepsake.  You can see that post from one year ago here.  (It is a coincidence that I worked on this project in July last year, and have chosen it as my project for July this year.)

President's Blocks

I believe I have 36 pages to quilt.  They shouldn’t take long, and they wouldn’t, if it was winter and I could stay in my cozy home all day long (which I can’t because of the day job).  But it is summer, and the sunshine calls, so I am making this easy on myself.  I am going to quilt six pages for the month.

Speaking of sunshine, there will be time for strolling in the garden!

I am linking up with Elm Street Quilts OMG (One Monthly Goal), where goals are met, one month at a time, and there is encouragement to keep on keepin’ on.

Bow Tie Leader/Ender

Bonnie Hunter introduced the term Leader/Ender many years ago.  It is a method of continuous piecing and she describes it well in her blog post here.

Each July, Bonnie announces a new Leader/Ender challenge, so she will be making that announcement very soon.

However, there is a challenge that she announced wayyyy back in 2011…the Bow Tie Leader/Ender.  This one has been on my ‘someday’ list since Bonnie announced it.

You know what?  ‘Someday’ never comes!  So I am making this one happen.

Except for the cheddar, I am cutting parts from scraps.  The cheddar is yardage that I just had to have.

Bow Tie Leader/Enders

No stress, no deadline…just for fun.

I like it.
