A Stroll in the Garden

“The reason birds can fly and we can’t is simply because they have perfect faith, for to have faith is to have wings.”

July OMG Goal 2019

I have never made a Disappearing Nine Patch (D9P) quilt.  Don’t ask me why this has been on my bucket list; it just has.

So when I saw that Julie Cefalu was hosting a D9P quilt along, I decided that now was the time to make one.

Julie’s instructions, diagrams, tips and even a size chart (for 5″ charm squares) is making an easy project just that much easier.  I really appreciate her efforts!

I have fabric that I want to use up (and thread, too), so I am making blocks with choices that I would definitely not normally choose.  That’s okay…someone somewhere will like it, and I am learning about value and design.

I have sewn 20 nine patch blocks.

I have even ‘spun’ the intersecting seams!

My goal for July is to cut these blocks up and sew them back together into a flimsy.

Thank you, Julie, for the diversion and the fun!

Lets Sew Quilt Along

Block 8, or the third block in Segment 2 of the Lets Sew Quilt Along is a cute pincushion design by Sherry Shish of Powered by Quilting.

The block is as easy, or embellished, as you would like!

I chose to machine applique my tomato pincushion.  I used a silver metallic thread to machine stitch the pin shafts.

I also drew and machine appliqued a strawberry to the pincushion.  Stitching by hand, I embellished with a stem stitch and a chain stitch.

I may use buttons for the pin heads after putting this project together.

Or I may not.
