Carrie Nation Quilt Block

This week, I present the Carrie Nation quilt block, also included in the Nancy Martin’s 365  Quilt Blocks A Year Perpetual Calendar.

If you have BlockBase, it is listed as number 1105.

The Carrie Nation block is drawn with a 4 x 4 grid.

Using EQ7, here the blocks are in a straight set (set squarely side-by-side):

With sashing separating each block:

What if we turned blocks:

There are lots of variations that can happen when turning the blocks; I’ve only shown one.

And then there is the on point setting:

And turning the blocks:

This simple little block is so versatile; it is a great one to choose for quick and easy projects, baby quilts, modern quilts and more!

Bird’s Nest Quilt Block

Bird’s Nest, found in the perpetual calendar, 365 Quilt Blocks a Year by Nancy Martin, is drafted from a 5 x 5 grid.  You can also find this block listed in BlockBase as #3237.

I came up with a file loaded with designs while playing with Bird’s Nest.  There’s alot one can do with this block.

Just to get started, a simple straight set with borders…blocks set square side-by-side:

Straight set with borders and an alternate block.

Bird’s Nest set on point, with borders:

Set on point with an alternate block and borders.

There is so much more one could do.  Value and color, as well as arrangement, sashing, and different borders all could dramatically change the design.

If you EQ, then go have fun!

Bachelor’s Puzzle Quilt Block

There are other versions of the Bachelor’s Puzzle Quilt Block, but this is the one included in Nancy Martin’s 365  Quilt Blocks A Year Perpetual Calendar.

If you have Block Base, the block is listed as number 1815b.

It is drawn with a 5 x 5 grid.

Here the blocks are in a straight set (set squarely side-by-side):

And here the blocks are set on point:

Set on point with a plain block:

Very often, I prefer an on point set to a straight set.
