I admit, I haven’t given a lot of thought to sewing goals (or any goals) for the new year.
I am participating in Karen Brown’s DeClutter Challenge 2025.
This is my 5th year participating. Karen makes it easy…you approach it with a timer. 15 minutes.
You can handle 15 minutes of declutter a day, can’t you?!
Karen’s challenge has become so popular now…woodworkers are cleaning their spaces, along with kitchens, closets, offices, and any space that one wants to tackle in easy increments!
This challenge has just started, so if you’d like to join, it is definitely not too late!
Just click on the ‘DeClutter Challenge I’m In’ photo in my sidebar!
My sewing space is small and always looks cluttered, even when I do have it cleaned up!
The current project involves a lot of strips, so it is spread out on the tables.
I do have a goal of using up stash in 2025. Bonnie Hunter’s Silk Path pattern is one of my solutions towards that goal.
I am using my 1-1/2″ strips and that is what you see in progress in the studio photos.
I like Bonnie’s patterns! She uses scraps and her patterns are well written.
I hope to make a few more scrap quilts to use up stash.
I will also continue to make pillowcases for donation. You can see some of those by clicking here and here.
I have one other goal for 2025, and that is to do more hand embroidery. Once upon a time and long ago, I did a lot of embroidery and I’d like to get back to it.
Once I complete the DeClutter Challenge, I will consider other goals. I know there are UFOs and kits hanging out in the studio that need to be made. I still need seasonal table toppers and the gift box is empty too!
Have fun and carry on!

Your sewing space is so cute in lime green with checkerboard floor, Laura!!!

A glimpse into your lime studio is always a treat, Laura. Messy, tidy, it doesn’t matter to me – it’s such a luscious space to create! Good luck with the challenge.

Oh, good! I’m doing the declutter challenge, too, and I think it makes sense to set one goal a month rather than a bunch at the first of the year, so it makes sense to wait and see after the declutter! Good luck, and happy new year!

Good luck, and have fun, with your declutter as well! I enjoy the challenge! Also, I’ve done pretty well, and not so well, with planning a full year’s worth of projects. Time to take it down a notch or two, and see what comes.
Happy New Year! 🙂

I have a goal as well to do more hand embroidery. I have several patterns, so I need to get going on them.

Thank you, Kathy! Both Karen’s declutter challenge and Bonnie Hunter’s scrappy pattern are fun. I’ve seen BH’s Silk Path made in red and neutral scrappy, as well as other 2 color schemes…looks great no matter what one chooses! I am definitely cleaning out the browns from my drawer; happy to see it being used! 🙂

I spent yesterday decluttering but 15 minutes a day sounds perfect 🙂 Love your craft room. Mine is about the same size if a bit smaller. There’s a darn futon in it which takes up so much space so no nice table. I keep thinking I must remove the futon but just can’t bring myself to do that as this is my 2nd bedroom and need it for a grandchildren visits. Love the quilt pattern 🙂

I get it, Sharon! I have a daybed right outside my little sewing studio. It is still private for the guest, since it is upstairs. Long ago, I had the Hubster remove the door from the sewing studio…it took up precious space. Ha, ha!
Happy New Year! 🙂

I am not doing goals this year, just working along with the flow. I am doing some of the declutter but my big job is to get the sewing room ready to make project packs for next weeks retreats. I am tired of cleaning and moving the same piles so I am putting an end to it (and following Karen’s declutter a little bit as I do it)!

I like the idea of not doing goals; going with the flow. I don’t have specific goals, except for moving fabric. Two ways to do that…pillowcases and scrappy sewing. That leaves me plenty of room to do as I please with no deadlines.
Of course, I just joined an embroidery group, but the projects are my choice and there are no deadlines. Just encouragement.
Have a wonderful new year doing your thing, Kathleen! 🙂
