Mini Design Boards

Back in 2017, I made mini design boards in sizes 9″ to 15″ square.

Those boards are very handy. I use them a lot.

I wanted a larger size, about 17″ square.

The boards that I found to work with measure about 20″ x 30″. I didn’t want to waste any, so I used the entire board, rather than cutting squares from them.

Instead of using hot glue, which was a very messy experience for me, I went with a different tutorial and used the UltraHold fusible glue from HeatnBond.

It was faster and easier!

I did make two, but they look the same, so you get the idea.

  1. Okay, now I’m wanting to make a few of these. I confess to only having a makeshift white flannel design wall hanging by thumbtacks on the wall space behind my studio (music & sewing!) door. It’s huge and useful but these are a welcome solution to using my small rotary mat for individual block piecing transfer to and from ironing/sewing machine. Plus they’re stackable! Thanks, Laura! Also need to get me a palm iron! 🙂

  2. Very nice boards and the heat & bond is a nice idea. I will bookmark this tute for when I need to update mine….the batting is looking a little sad!

I ran across this video this year, too, and added a bunch more design boards to the works–love the heat n bond alternative!

  7. Oh, goodness! I made design boards but mine aren’t nearly this fancy! Now I may have to make another one just to make it as pretty as yours! Thanks for the tips.
