We were up early to check out sunrise at Avon Fishing Pier (opened its doors in 1963 and was the first pier to be built on Hatteras Island) in the Outer Banks.
*Clicking on a photo will give you a closer look!
Due to the back swell of Hurricane Ian, the winds were high, it was overcast, and the waves were 10 feet!
We didn’t get that glorious sunrise that all photographers look for, but it was a great morning for photo opportunities and practice anyway!

Thank you for sharing, I shared them with my sister in Charleston, SC. Obviously there were remnants of the storm still there.

America’s Pier!! Oooh, how I would love to have been on it to see those big waves. I LOVE to watch the ocean at anytime but especially when there’s a big storm a brewing. Yikes! Stunning pictures. Thanks for taking us on your journey. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Those waves are more California waves rather than North Carolina (or South for that matter) waves. Really cool to see here even if it was the result of impending Ian (which was a real threat to those of us in the Carolinas, but thankfully calmed down).
I have to say, tho, I love the west coast ocean much more for its pure wildness and recklessness! However the shells here are much more colorful as your photo shows.

You are right, Laura. There definitely are differences between the coasts. It also occurred to me that it was a lot easier for pirates to hide out on the east coast than the west! So many more coves and inlets! 🙂

I can just hear those waves crashing, and feel the wind whipping around you. I grow up close to Ocean City Md ,it was always fun to go there after a hurricane went through.

Yes, Deb, the crashing and the wind were certainly making for quite the day at the beach! I loved it! 🙂

There were a lot of surfers, men and women, braving the waves. They loved it! 🙂
