Last week, I completed the free motion quilting in the diamonds of the Christmas Lone Star.
This week, I free motion quilted a simple up and down line design in the red sashing.
You can see the texture on the back of the quilt.
I have to admit, it does feel nice to be moving this old UFO forward.
Christmas in July has also motivated me to work on gifts.
I have seven hexagon table toppers (or placemats, if you like) sewn together. I talked about this pattern in my previous post.
I am feeling pretty smart finally using up some very old fabric to make these cute toppers.
In keeping with the use-it-up theme, my next goal is to pull some scrap batting out of a large overflowing tub and piece some frankenbatts for these. If I have time, I will find some backings, too.
I am linking up with Kathy over here. You might want to visit, and be encouraged to get your Christmas projects moving!
Quilt On!

Gorgeous quilting! And I like all your table toppers!!!

Hi Laura! Hmm. I’m going to have to check out that pattern for your hexi mats, although I already made my own for a slightly larger version. Besides – I do NOT need anything squirrel projects. I do not. HAHA! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

The last thing that I need is a squirrel project! However, I do need gifts, so I am making an exception (never mind any other exceptions that you can think of). Ha, ha!
I like the versions that you have made. I still have the snowman on my someday list. 🙂

Anyone who has the patience, skill and perseverance to actually piece together a Lone Star Quilt deserves oodles of kudos. Laura, that’s you!
I remember seeing it in an older post and admiring you for doing it – this is really ‘almost’ done and you should be proud even if it’s not yet finished. The choice of Red toile as a backing makes it even more ‘classy’.

Hi Laura ~ I am also doing the Christmas in July challenge Kathy is hosting too. I have had a problem trying to join the link party (and haven’t) but just discovered you did too. Wow – your quilt is gorgeous!!!!!! The hexagon table toppers are wonderful. You have givien me an idea! I don’t think/remember if I realized you were in WA. I am in the northwest corner, in Bellingham.

Hi Sharon! So happy to meet a fellow Washingtonian! We are in opposite corners! I have been to Bellingham several times, and there are many beautiful places on the west coast. Where was your profile pic taken? Mine was taken at Dry Falls. I should change it, since I now have a full head of gray hair. Ha, ha!
Kathy has given us the push we needed to move a few things forward. She is a busy bee, isn’t she?! 🙂

Looking forward to seeing the large quilt finished.

I think that one is coming to a halt shortly. Not because I am stuck, or don’t want to work on it, but because other things have to take precedence soon. 🙂

Love the Lone Star Xmas quilt and it does feel so good to get the oldie but goodies out of the way. I have the pattern for the table toppers – Atkinson Designs put out some of the neatest patterns. I went through 4 drawers this last week and now have some scraps to play with for the table toppers. I can tell you are enjoying retirement – and you have grey hair now? Welcome to the group! Have a great week, late in commenting again. Hugs
