Christmas in July Challenge Update

When Kathy issued her Christmas in July Challenge, I said that I would move my Lone Star project forward by quilting the star points this month.

The month is halfway over, and I have completed the challenge.

I used a variegated green, red and white thread to free motion quilt the star.

Since I have completed my goal, and since this challenge is supposed to be for the month, I may just keep going on this project. I may quilt the red inner border.

I may.

But you know how the squirrels are…those masters of distraction.

Wendy posted about a sweet little table topper over at her blog, Pieceful Thoughts.

Turns out that I have all I need to make this topper, including the hexagon ruler, and a shoebox full of fabric squares that were exchanged with guild members (back in the day…like the 90’s to be more specific).

So I did.

Make one, that is.

It is already gifted.

But this is Christmas in July. And I have that loaded shoebox.

So I have already cut out enough hexagons for 7 (seven more) Christmas gifts (and barely made a dent in that box)!

I may spend the rest of July cutting out background pieces.

Thank you, Kathy and Wendy!

Really…I mean it!

I am linking up with Kathy over here. You might want to visit, and be encouraged to get your Christmas projects moving!

Quilt On!

  1. SEVEN more?!!! I love this. I just called Wendy an enabler this morning, for a different reason. But I saw that table topper and it has been playing around in the back of my mind all day. Laura, I’m going to have to charge you with aiding and abetting an enabler. You will have to serve time maybe quilting that red inner border. Maybe. No other punishment or ticket will be issued. {{{Hugs}}} ~smile~ Roseanne

    • I appreciate your going easy on me! After all, I’ve got seven Christmas gifts in the works, thanks to the enabler. And really, I am grateful…December will be less stressful. Less stress this year! Maybe that ought to be our motto for next year, too! This table topper is easy to make, too! So…hey…go for it! 🙂

  4. The hexie topper is really cute. And contained. Hexies can seem to keep going and going and going…So I quit ’em years ago. However, this has me intrigued. Nope, Laura, you’re not gonna rope me in on this as it’s a Squirrel with a capitol S that I can none afford to chase!
    HA!
Keep on using up those fabric stashes! You’re on a roll, girl.

    • Funny thing…I gave up hexies years ago as well…I have an old UFO in a box somewhere…probably never going to finish it. But this one is easy and contained, as you say. It will make great gifts, so no pressure. I commend your ability to resist! 🙂
