Non-Sewing/Embroidery Goal February 2022

I have done very little sewing so far this month.

Instead, I have been absorbed in genealogy (Gotta do that research before my subscription to Ancestry runs out!).

Currently, I am working on researching the Civil War ancestors. I don’t know a thing about war service, but I am learning. I have learned that it is very hard to place ancestors with their correct service record, when the parents chose similar names for their children! In other words, more than a few cousins and uncles are all named John, James and William!

I also learned that one can transfer to another regiment, or be absorbed by another regiment. So I may have William listed in several regiments and I apparently think that he has the ability to be in multiple places at once.

I don’t feel too bad about my confusion in placing everyone with their corresponding family and regiment…I have noticed, when I look at other public trees, that there is an abundance of confusion.

I can’t stress enough…check, cross-check, and do it again!

There are more to research, but I am sure of the following. All are 3rd cousins 5 times removed except for James…he is a 1st cousin 5 times removed.

James Trueblood b.1816 to d.1890 31st Regiment
James Trueblood
b.1816 to d.1890
31st Regiment
Private
Samuel C. Trueblood b.1833 to d.1913 50th Regiment, Indiana Infantry
Samuel C. Trueblood
b.1833 to d.1913
50th Regiment, Indiana Infantry
Sergeant
Adolphus Trueblood 15th Regiment, Indiana Infantry b.1836 to d.1832
Adolphus Trueblood
b.1836 to d.1832
15th Regiment, Indiana Infantry
2nd Lieutenant
Gilbert B Trueblood 133rd Infantry b. 1839 d.1907
Gilbert B Trueblood
b. 1839 d.1907
133rd Infantry
Surgeon Assistant

I do know where these graves are, and I have the service records of their regiments, but I won’t take up the space here. Just so you know…I have been on the internet way too much!

My other non-sewing related goal is to edit our photos from a 2016 vacation to Hawaii.

Little by little.

Keeping on.

How about you? Making progress with the non-sewing related goals?

Carry On!

  1. Oh yeah, I get it about being on the internet way too long! Even if it’s for important stuff relevant to getting what you call ‘non-sewing related goals’ finished – it always zaps the soul out of my life!
For myself, it’s the maze of getting my Bandcamp site set up (which involves HTML for certain things!), registering my recent music and submitting it to cdbaby for distribution (which involves extensive cataloguing of featured artists, ISRC codes, etc etc etc), even signing up for a business paypal account and setting up a special bank account just for all of that…
This after the easy stuff I’d already done months ago: registering my music with ASCAP, claiming my Spotify for artists page, etc etc etc…
Slowly but surely making progress towards the ‘real’ release date in March.
So, I get it, lady! And it’s all worth it in the end, right?
Keep on it, Laura! Your ancestry research looks like it’s been a rewarding process.

  2. I haven’t been doing much else than working on SAHRR borders each week (okay, I’ve done other sewing things, but that’s the main thing). I can see how that study would suck you into the internet big time!

  3. LOVE this, Laura! My ancestry is something I’m going to delve into once I retire. My sister made a tape of my mom back in 1994 with all kinds of information I wasn’t aware of! My aunt was a huge ancestry researcher, and I wish now that I had the time to spend a month with her, working through out family. It is so fascinating. Do you just get a tingle when you find someone you are related to? If you see their signature in a tax roll book, or whatever. Amazing! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  4. I love the genealogy. I did Clay’s and he goes back to the original Choctaw Chief of 1812 and the Dancing Rabbit Treaty. My Chopin side goes back to a niece of Frédéric Chopin. Mother’s side goes back to Pennsylvania. My Father’s Mother side goes back to Switzerland – Luschers. Most of mine is done. Neither Clay nor I have anyone to leave the information with so I quit working on it. I know enough of all of them. I could delve into a lot of my Father when he was in WWII but have enough.

You enjoy what you are doing. I was in Hawaii on a TDY trip in the late ’80s. I stayed in the original Officer’s quarters at Pearl. We visited the Arizona – it was such an experience.

Hugs and enjoy whatever you are doing!

    • Your family histories sound great! I love learning about the people, times and places! I do it for myself; I don’t think it would be fun otherwise.
I had been to Hawaii as a teen…stayed with my uncle when he was stationed at Pearl, and visited the Arizona then, too. I got more out of that experience then…less people and more time to absorb it. However, being with my kids and grandkids and packing in so much fun this time around was awesome! 🙂

  5. Genealogy is such a rabbit hole, but so much fun! My grandpa and uncle did lots of that, and we have reaped the benefits!

    • I have been studiously avoiding working on the taxes this week, but will have to get back at it this weekend.

      • Not just a rabbit hole; more like a huge sinkhole! Ha, ha!

You mentioned those taxes a couple of times now. I thought they’d be done by now since you are so good at organization and time management! Then again, Zoom parties are so much more fun! 🙂

        • I’m pacing myself….I hate doing them, but my personal deadline is Feb. 28, so I consciously decided to NOT work on them this week. Well, sort of. I was thinking Monday would be a good day, but instead we drove to Belle Fourche to meet the parents of our new born puppy! Met the little pup too, but he was only 2 days old, so I just snuggled him for a few minutes.

  6. Very interesting information you are finding. My family doesn’t go back that far in this country, and all those pesky World Wars destroyed a lot of information in Europe. A few years back we drove to my husband’s family graveyard near Murray, KY. I’m amazed he could find it, way back up in the hills.

    • Wars do have a way of destroying much of what is good in this world. It does sound as if you and your Hubby had a great drive down memory lane in the Kentucky hills! 🙂
