One of my sewing goals for this year, is to use some of the fabrics that I hand dyed years ago.
As you can see, I have enough for several projects!
Remember when I organized my paperwork (patterns, ideas, inspiration)? While I was doing that, I was looking for something to do with the hand dyes.
I chose the Garden Baskets pattern designed by Janine Holzman and published in Quilters Newsletter Magazine 1997.
I have 18 blocks stacked and prepared for sewing.
This should be fun!
Quilt On!

OH I have some basket patterns and a nice flat of black! I may just try this. Getting bored with UFOs but still pushing!

Throwing something new into the mix helps me, Nanette…so long as I finish something, too. 😁 It is nice to take a little side trip once in a while.

Cleaning/clearing your piles revealed a fun ‘side trip’ with your ‘old’ hand dyed fabrics. A fresh take on an old pattern – well worth the ‘dive’ HA!

Those fabrics have been on my mind for a long time, but I wanted to work through most of my old UFO’s before doing something new. I think I am at a point where I can say that I am balanced between old and new now. Wonder how long that balance will last. Ha, ha! And what’s the point of collecting patterns if I never use them? I think most of them have aged quite well now. Then again, a collector collects just for the fun of collecting; using has nothing to do with it. 🙂

I have a whole drawer of hand dyed fabrics, but that won’t be my project for them. How many leaves are in that border?

I didn’t count, Donna. I don’t think I will count. Snort! 🙂

Hi Laura! Oh those fabrics!!! Just the perfect design to highlight them all to their best. I can’t wait to see this project as it moves along. ~smile~ Roseanne

Thank you, Roseanne! It is moving along slowly. I already have a date with Jack the Ripper…it seems that my block wants to be somewhat larger than the pattern. I should’ve made a test block first, but, no…I just dove right in there. Ha, ha!

That’s a great pattern to make the most of your hand dyed fabrics. Will you machine applique the border?

I enjoy hand applique, but I am leaning towards machine applique, which I also enjoy. I guess I will figure that out when I get to that stage, Allison. 🙂

This looks to be very eye catching, Laura, and a I love the black!

I think this will be quite nice, Kathy. I have made an applique quilt before (done by hand) with a black background, and I loved it. Still do…but I gave it to my daughter. 🙂
