I mentioned that drilling was going to happen at my place when I shared the excavation in this post.
It has begun.
*Clicking on a photo will give you a closer look!
I had no idea what was coming.
I didn’t know how destructive this process is! I don’t mind digging in the dirt, but…my, oh my!
I have men folk who can’t be here to enjoy this process, so most of the photos are for them.
Yes, you…Dad, Dan and Chris!
Time out for the beautiful morning view:
The company name for those locals who have asked:
The water truck, steel pipes, pvc liners and extensions.
Fun gauges on the drill truck.
That is my one remaining pear tree being sprayed with cobble…a mixture of top soil and clay.
I hope it can be rescued after this!
340 feet deep and we have water.
Stay healthy! Stay safe!

That’s really deep comparared to how deep we drill in this area. Hopefully it’s a one time project.

It better be!
Wells in this area can be a whole lot deeper! I have a neighbor with a 900′ well!

Sorry to say but your pear tree looks like it’s becoming prematurely petrified wood.
😦
But all for a good cause – water is important!

When this is over, Hubby intends to clean it up, and prune it back hard. Hopefully, that will be enough to save the tree. We won’t know until next spring, of course. It has survived a lot over the years, including damage from these guys:

Those guys aren’t as big as the drills, but way scarier!

If you don’t get rain right away, I would spray the tree down with water to clear at least a portion of the leaves, so they can photosynthesize and store up more energy for the winter.

Kathy, there is no rain in the forecast for the foreseeable future. We know that we need to wash off the tree, but there is no available water to do it with. Next year there will be, but right now all I’ve got in the area of the tree is lots of mud and drilling related equipment.
I am hoping that Hubby can talk the drillers into hosing down the tree with water from their water truck (assuming they still have water in it). They will be pulling out tomorrow while I am at work. 🙂
This cobble stuff is like cement; it is tough stuff!

Oh I hope they will hose it, since they are the ones who did it!

Wow! That is all amazing! I’m sure the men folk are grateful for your photos of the vehicles and drilling gear! I’m joining the ladies who’ve commented in sharing my concern for your poor pear tree 😦
