Bees do have a smell, you know, and if they don’t they should, for their feet are dusted with spices from a million flowers. -Ray Bradbury, Dandelion Wine
Aerodynamically, the bumble bee shouldn’t be able to fly, but the bumble bee doesn’t know it, so it goes on flying anyway. -Mary Kay Ash
It’s not so much how busy you are, but why you are busy. The bee is praised. The mosquito is swatted. -Mary O’Connor
Great quote from Ray B. and from my fav book of his, too!
Life goes on in the natural world and we need to see that! Thanks for the superb photos, Laura.
The flowers, the bees and the quotes all make for a very uplifting post, thank you!
Traditionally allotment plots are just full of rows of vegetables but over the past twenty years there’s been a change to mixing in flowers with all that veg.I think it’s because so many of the new generation of allotmentiers are women, anyhow the flowers are the best way to attract bees and other pollinators and look lovely too. I never dig up self-seeded poppies or foxgloves if I can help it!

It sounds like women have made a vast improvement to the allotments, Allison! I don’t dig up volunteer poppies and foxgloves, either! 🙂
