I decided to work on an old UFO. I mentioned Floral Reflections when I created my Focus List and shared the project in this post.
I shared that I must have started this project sometime in the 90’s, and that all twelve blocks had been fused and then set aside.
The next step is to machine applique the blocks, and that is what I am working on. I have begun by using Sulky rayon threads and a small zig-zag stitch on the leaves and stems of the flowers.
The quilt inspector is trying hard to stay awake, but she is bored with this project.

When I finish the leaves and stems, I will move on to the berries and flowers.

The blocks are wonderful and deserve to be finished. Some of the pieces are really small! With quilts like that I sometimes put the top together and applique and quilt at the same time using a straight stitch or thread painting.

Why didn’t I think of that?! I just finished a thread painting project…this would’ve been a great candidate for that! Sheesh! 😜

Hi Laura! Great job on finding and actually working on that old UFO. I enjoy machine applique so all of your blocks stacked up like that looks like a big ‘ole pile of fun to me. I think your stitching looks perfectly fine – carry on. ~smile~ Roseanne

I don’t know why I set this project aside, Roseanne…I really like it. I did have some difficult times, and depression, but I am back on my feet again. I feel pretty good about staying focused and catching up on old projects now. 👍

Laura – looks like this UFO was just ready and waiting for you to pick it back up again. I do enjoy the part where decisions are made on thread colors, so I especially liked your thread selections.
Ummm, I’ll amend that by saying my fav photo is of the quilt inspector…can I borrow her sometime?!

I also enjoy choosing threads…I’ve got a lot of threads and always have room for more!

Aha! The pattern has two sizes, and apparently I chose the smaller size…58″ x 66″.
If the appliques pieces had been bigger, I probably would have chosen to do a satin stitch, but I thought that would overwhelm the small pieces, so I went with a looser zig-zag. I might be wrong about that decision, but I made it, and I am sticking to it. 🙂
