While on vacation, Hubby and I stayed a couple of days in Cody, Wyoming. Cody is located in the Bighorn Basin, an area rich in western history.
Cody was founded by Colonel William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody, who passed through the region in the 1870s. He was impressed by the many development possibilities and returned in the mid-1890s to start a town. Cody was incorporated in 1901, and is located 52 miles from Yellowstone National Park’s East Entrance.
We spent an entire day at The Buffalo Bill Center of the West, a complex of museums and a research library featuring art and artifacts of the American West. The center includes the Draper Natural History Museum, the Plains Indian Museum, the Cody Firearms Museum, the Whitney Western Art Museum, and the Buffalo Bill Museum. It is impossible to take it all in in a day, but we tried.
Taking photos is allowed.
So this unprofessional couple did. Loads of them, with our little pocket cameras. Some photos are blurry, and many have reflections in them, since items are displayed behind glass. I’ll be sharing some of these photos with you in the next few blog posts.
*Clicking on a photo will give you a closer look!
Buffalo Bill was a Pony Express rider, a Civil War soldier, a civilian scout for the US Army during the Indian Wars, a Medal of Honor recipient, a buffalo hunter, a gunfighter, an entertainer (his Buffalo Bill’s Wild West company traveled the world), a businessman, rancher, and investor in coal, oil, newspaper publishing and irrigation. I am sure I forgot to list something…let’s just say that this man had a life full of experiences!
To be continued.

Hi Laura! This looks like so much fun to me. We didn’t hit this on our adventure out West but I wish we had. ~smile~ Roseanne
