April OMG 2018 Update

How did April fly by so fast?  It is already time to share how I did with  my goals for April.

My first goal was to sew a flimsy.  I already had the pieces cut, and I am happy to say that I was able to sew this together:

Hannah's Quilt

It still needs borders, and some applique, but I reached the goal for the month.

If you would like to see the pattern (Butterfly Garden) click on the link above.  It will take you to my April goals where I share where to find the pattern.

My next goal for April was to find a pattern and cut the fabric for a new peg (clothespin) bag.  I went down the rabbit hole (Pinterest) for ideas and I have the fabric cut.  I have a photo, but it isn’t much to look at, since I haven’t finished the bag.

The hanger is child-size, and is lying underneath what will be the top of the bag.  The fabric under the hanger is the lining for the bag, and you are looking at the wrong side of it.

I am not sharing a pattern, since, after looking at several on Pinterest, I am going with my own thing.  We will see how it turns out.

Goal 3 was to sew my three blocks for the RSC18 Squared Away Scrap Sampler.  I finished the blocks and posted about them here.

I am happy, happy, happy with Goal #4!  I not only made progress with quilting the Friendship Row by Row quilt, but I finished the quilting!  Woohoo!

I don’t have close-up photos of the quilting, but, believe me, you don’t want to see them.  This is the very first time that I have machine quilted with a frame.  Let’s just say that it was a huge learning experience!

It still needs binding.  Maybe that will be next month’s goal.

If you’d like to read the brief history of this quilt, I blogged about it here. That was a year ago!  Time flies!

Between sewing and the job, I am also gardening.  I haven’t accomplished as much outside as I would have liked, but it has been glorious enjoying the sunshine and seeing the promise of spring blooming.

So Scrappy announced the Rainbow Scrap colors of the month as yellow and gold.

I am having fun participating in the Squared Away Sampler project. Here are my three 5″ unfinished blocks:

And all of my blocks so far:

I will be linking up with So Scrappy; see how others have gone yellow and gold this month!

April OMG 2018

April brings new goals (or old ones brought forward) for the OMG challenge at Elm Street Quilts.

I am starting a new quilt this month.  I found a free pattern on Craftsy called Butterfly Garden by the Red Boot Quilt Company.  I am using the same fabrics that I used when I made the Sugar Town pattern.  This quilt will also be for a certain little girl, who just happens to be the cousin of the certain little girl that I am giving Sugar Town to.

I have most of the pieces cut, so I am hoping for some serious sit-down time with the sewing machine.  I want to have the interior of the flimsy finished by the end of the month.  At this time, I am undecided about the borders and the applique (although the applique drew me to the pattern in the first place).

I follow Jenny’s blog over at Elefantz…she nourishes my soul.  She helps keep me centered.  In my perfect world, I would be a full-time homemaker.  Maybe someday….

Anyhoooo…I was inspired by Jenny’s post (and the fact that my sweet Hubby is repainting the laundry room) to create a new peg bag.  My bag is over 30 years old.  There is nothing wrong with it, but I think it would be fun to make one to decorate the laundry room and be useful at the same time.

My next goal for the month is to come up with a pattern and get the fabric cut and ready to sew.  I may spend a lot of time down the rabbit hole (also known as Pinterest).

I will also be working on the RSC18 Squared Away Sampler.  I need to make three blocks in yellow and gold (the colors announced for April).

I would like to make more progress on quilting the friendship row by row, too.

Spring is here, and I hope to be outside more, so we’ll see how much I can accomplish with this month’s goals.
