June OMG 2018

“In winter I get up at night
And dress by yellow candle-light.
In summer quite the other way,
I have to go to bed by day.
I have to go to bed and see
The birds still hopping on the tree,
Or hear the grown-up people’s feet
Still going past me in the street.
And does it not seem hard to you,
When all the sky is clear and blue,
And I should like so much to play,
To have to go to bed by day?”
–  Robert Louis Stevenson, Bed in Summer

I feel a bit like the child in the above poem.  I go to bed by daylight instead of staying up to play and enjoy these long summer days.

Retirement.  Wherefore art thou, Retirement?

Nevertheless, I am making the best of it.  Or trying to.  I love these beautiful days when every day the earth shares new fragrant blooms amidst warm sunshine rays and refreshing rain showers!

It is a new month and time to set new goals (or bring the old ones forward).

Remember these two quilts?:

Alyssa's Quilt

Hannah's Quilt

I want to piece fat quarters together to make quilt backings for them.

I also want to piece a binding together for the Friendship Row by Row.

I will be piecing three blocks for the Squared Away Sampler project.  Teal and turquoise are the colors for the month, but the block hasn’t been announced yet.

And, of course, take time to walk in the garden.

May OMG 2018 Update

My Mom put in a couple of sewing requests, so I chose those for my May OMG (One Monthly Goal) goals.

Her first request was to replace the worn elastic on the wrists of her light jacket.  She has very small hands and wrists, and I think that I stretched the new elastic too much while stitching it to the jacket sleeves.  I hope that the sleeves fit, and are not too large!

Her second request was to make a couple of purple bowl cozies. This was a much easier request to fulfill!

Mom also had an unfinished potholder in her bag.

I don’t think it was a hint, but I did finish it for her.

Love you, Mom!

I also completed three rose/pink blocks for the Squared Away sampler from RSC18.  You can see that in a blog post here.

RSC18 May

This blog post shares the quick and easy fabric trays that I made this month.

Some gardening took place, too, so I am claiming this month as a productive month for me!

The Rainbow Scrap colors for May are rose and pink.

I am having fun participating in the Squared Away Sampler project. Here are my three 5″ unfinished Baton Rouge blocks:

I will be linking up with So Scrappy.  Check out the link and see what others have done with pink and rose this month!

If you would like to participate in the RSC18 Squared Away Sampler project, click on the link to read all about it.  You can also visit The Academic Quilter for great tutorials on making the blocks.  No need to make the 5″ block size that I am making.  Perhaps you want to make a 20″ block or something in between!

Learn about a variety of blocks, use those scraps and have fun!

Here is what else I have been working on:

It has been raining, but I have done quite a bit of weeding, and the flower beds are looking pretty happy!
