HQAL April 2025

Spring has arrived!

I have two big distractions…sunshine and gardening!

Home Flower Garden

Flowers are growing fast now! Lots of flowers!

I am anxiously awaiting for all of those ‘trees’ in front of the garden to suddenly perfume the air with loads of pink, purple, and white lilac blossoms! Lilacs are everywhere here!

I don’t have a photo, but the crabapple is full of pink buds and will open soon, too!

Daffodil

Daffodil

I am slowly spreading daffodil love around here. I have several varieties, and they are all doing well.

I used to have hundreds of tulips, but the rodents have devastated those (grrrrrrrrr). They don’t bother the daffodils, so a new look is happening around here.

Hyacinth

Grape Hyacinth

The critters, big and small, leave the hyacinths alone, too. Yay!

Here is an early lily that I think is very cool, and it appears to be thriving in my garden!

Fritillaria Persica

The peas are up, as well as the carrots, radishes, spinach, onion, a couple of types of lettuce, and the strawberries look great.

Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and zucchini are all planted.

I hope y’all had a wonderful Easter! I know that I did! My daughter, and her fam, visited from North Carolina and it was such fun to see them!

Lest you think I have done nothing, stitching-wise, I do have a bit to report.

A very small bit.

Here is where I was:

This Hand Quilt Along is an opportunity for hand quilters and piecers to share and motivate one another. We post every three weeks, to show our progress and encourage one another.  If you have a hand quilting project and would like to join our group contact Kathy at the link below.

Tulip Placemats

In June, 2022, I shared a post where I showed a pair of spring placemats, or table toppers.

When Mom passed last July, I inherited a cabinet from her. The cabinet top is the same size as my two side tables (End tables, accent cabinets, side tables…what do you call them?).

I wondered if I had more of the same scraps that I had used for the original tulip placemats, so I dug in the scraps, and I found more.

I am not always matchy-matchy, but it was fun to make this tulip pattern and, of course, tulips do come in lots of colors.

I cut my binding wider than I normally do. I dunno why…senior moment. I am pretty sure that I am not the only one who suffers those.

It looks nice anyway.

Shamrock Table Toppers

I have three small cabinets that have table tops that measure 15″ x 18″ and I like to switch out seasonal table toppers on them.

Shamrock Table Toppers

I didn’t have anything for St. Patrick’s Day, so I did some internet surfing and found Joanna Figueroa’s (Fig Tree & Company) Lucky Shamrock free quilt block.

Shamrock Table Toppers

I dug into the green and white scraps and, ta-da!

Three St. Patrick’s Day table toppers!

No fancy quilting; just keeping it simple.

I am looking forward to green outdoors, and I am finding some green shoots sprouting!
