One Union Square Quilt Block – Part 2

Remember these blocks from last week’s post:

And set with sashing:

Let’s mix it up with the altered blocks:

Now I’m likin’ this!

One Union Square On Point Set 4I’d like to see these star blocks in Christmas colors!  I’ll be revisiting this Electric Quilt project.

Jalene’s Memory Quilt

I have the privilege of teaching a young lady how to quilt.  Jalene wants to create a memory quilt for her senior project.

She has lots of fun photos printed, and her colors are classic, black, white and pink.

Jalene spent some time learning to use the rotary cutter and rulers.

IMG_3575bShe has all the pieces cut out.  We used Electric Quilt to design her quilt.

We both have busy schedules so we can only meet for short periods of time, but we’re making progress.

One Union Square Quilt Block

What can be done with just one block?

In this case the Union Square Block.

One Union Square

It is drawn with a 6 x 6 grid.

And this is what it looks like set side by side in a straight set:

I like it because the blocks form a secondary design where they meet…more stars.

Many times sashing and cornerstones are added to the design.  While this allows one to see the individual blocks (and is an easy way to make a quilt larger for that larger bed), the secondary design is lost.

What happens when we add lines to the Union Square quilt block?

Now we have more to look at!  It ‘feels’ more energetic.

What happens if lines are deleted from the block, and we use the variations together?

I like it!

Let’s add a plain block to the mix.

I like it more!
