Chisholm Trail Quilt Block

Chisholm Trail, found in the perpetual calendar, 365 Quilt Blocks a Year by Nancy Martin, is drafted from a 4 x 4 grid.

Here it is presented in a simple straight set with borders…blocks set square side-by-side:

And in a straight set with sashing:

Throw in some plain blocks and rotate a few Chisholm Trail blocks:

Don’t stop there!  Use alternate blocks, value and color, and different borders to  completely change the look.

If you EQ, then go have fun!

Children’s Delight Quilt Block

This week, I am presenting the Children’s Delight quilt block.

This block is drawn with a 5 x 5 grid.  Its asymmetrical design allows for some interesting design options.

Setting the block in a straight set:

Also a straight set, but the some of the blocks have been turned:

Plain blocks have replaced some of the Children’s Delight blocks:

If you like the modern quilts, perhaps this is the block you are looking for.  Have fun with this block; there’s lots to play with!

Bachelor’s Puzzle Quilt Block

There are other versions of the Bachelor’s Puzzle Quilt Block, but this is the one included in Nancy Martin’s 365  Quilt Blocks A Year Perpetual Calendar.

If you have Block Base, the block is listed as number 1815b.

It is drawn with a 5 x 5 grid.

Here the blocks are in a straight set (set squarely side-by-side):

And here the blocks are set on point:

Set on point with a plain block:

Very often, I prefer an on point set to a straight set.
