A Small Dragon

“No, I would not want to live in a world without dragons, as I would not want to live in a world without magic, for that is a world without mystery, and that is a world without faith.”
― R.A. Salvatore, Streams of Silver

A friend cherishes a bit of needlework that her mother had stitched. It was out of shape and rolled up and no one could enjoy it.

I told her that I would do something with it.

I washed the piece, and tried to block it back to shape the best that I could.

And then I made it into a little cushion cover. The orange stripe on the back conceals a zipper.

Now everyone who visits my friend can enjoy her Mother’s handiwork and have a smile when they visit her and see the little cushion on display.

Stay healthy.

Stay safe.

Keep smiling.

November OMG 2017 Goal Update

My OMG/UFO goal for November was the number 2 (drawn by Patchwork Times).

I wanted to turn the Brazilian embroidered piece into a pillow.

Brazilian Embroidery 001

To create texture, I free motion quilted around the embroidery.

I was frustrated when I discovered that some of my threads bled a bit when I removed my blue quilting marks with water.

However, I was able to wash out the bleeding with a good soak in Dawn dishwashing liquid.  (What a relief!)

The back of the pillow has a hidden zipper.

I am happy with how it turned out!

This pillow is destined to be a gift.

Kitty Cushion

“Granddaughter, through you I see the future.
Through me, you’ll see the past.
In the present, we’ll love one another as long as these moments last.” – Unknown

This past weekend, I was blessed to have my son and his family visit.  The last time that they were able to visit was back in April.

Having my 10 year old granddaughter with me, meant that we could finish her cushion project that we began the last time that she was here.

You can see the beginning of it in this blog post.

A. chose the fabrics, threads, and the applique.  She also did most of the sewing (I helped a little bit with those eyes).  I simply encouraged her along.

She’s a happy little camper, and I am a proud Grandma!
