RSC18 October

Dark green and sage are the colors for the month of October announced by So Scrappy and The Academic Quilter.

I made three Dewey Dream blocks in the 5″ size for the Squared Away Sampler.  I reversed the green and neutral in one of the blocks just to have a visual of how the block would look when moving value around.  Now that I see it, my personal preference is having a dark value for what I am calling the background.

For some reason, the camera didn’t pick up the green color very well; it isn’t that dark!

If you would like to make the Squared Away Sampler, you can visit The Academic Quilter for great tutorials on making all of the blocks.

If I decide to set these blocks on point, I shall be making one more block, perhaps a brown one.  I am holding off on my decision (although I do have something in mind) until I see what The Academic Quilter suggests for settings.

I will be linking up with So Scrappy.  Check out the link and see what others are doing with dark green and sage this month!

Twister Table Runner

I have done so well with my monthly sewing goals (in my estimation at least) that I decided to find a quick and easy project to do.  Just for the fun of it.

I settled on the Twister Table Runner pattern by Shelley Robson of Pieced Tree Patterns.  I saw it made up with Halloween fabrics (very cute), and realized how easy it would be to create seasonal table runners with this pattern.  It would make quick and easy gifts.

I resized the pattern, since my dining table is a large one, and I had a festive candy cane fabric that I could feature for the Christmas season.

I used blue chalk to mark a grid for quilting.

Fun to make, versatile and not terribly time consuming!

Dark blue and dark neutrals, such as black, are the colors of the month announced by So Scrappy and The Academic Quilter.  You can also choose to use an accent color if you are participating in the RSC18 Squared Away Sampler project and making the Queen Charlotte’s Crown block.

I am using dark blue, black, and yellow for my 5 inch Queen Charlotte’s Crown blocks.

I had some trouble visualizing this block, so I took some time to play with it.  You can see a few quilt designs using this block in this post.

You can also visit The Academic Quilter for great tutorials on making all of the blocks.  There is a chart of various sizes so you can choose what size blocks that you would like to make.

I need a bigger design wall.  🙂
