Recycling Wooden Crates

Hubby and I have used old wooden crates to harvest our fruit, but now they are old and in rough shape.  Nevertheless, I couldn’t bear to see them destined for the burn pit.

So I cleaned them up.

Hubby did some minor repairs.

I am spraying them with black paint and repurposing them.

This one is holding my collection of books on dyeing and painting fabric.

These crates could be used for any number of purposes…use to hold a wall display, or to corral those dog toys, or to hold your child’s stuffed animal collection, just to name a few.

Sewing Studio Makeover – Part 5

Hubby built very sturdy shelving to hold my heavy collection of books, magazines and patterns.  I sure appreciate him!

The shelving also holds baskets of UFOs, sewing notions and craft items.

And my M&M’s.

The built-in shelving displays my fabric stash.  It is not folded on foam core, or comic boards…I’ll never be that consistent with my stash.  But I do like it out in the open.   And I wonder how did some of those pieces get here?

And the scraps?  I have a dresser full.

I am considering Bonnie Hunter’s scrap user’s system, but I rather like running my fingers through them.

Sewing Studio Makeover – Part 4

Hooray!  I have a floor!

Detail of molding, or is it a toe kick?  Either way, I really like it!

Recycled bulletin board (fabric covered board and painted frame).  The mini ironing board was made by my husband.  The cover for it is a remnant from a quilt made by my great-grandmother.

I made four of these teddy bears.  The two on the right are also made from remnants from a quilt made by my great-grandmother.

The vinyl lettering came from a shop appropriately called, ‘Vinyl Lettering’.  I am really pleased with it!

There is no closet in this small room, so storage is a big issue.  The slanted ceilings also limit storage.   Hubby will be making the shelving to solve this problem.
