Mt. Rainier Vacation

I had a vacation from work, so Hubby and I packed up and visited the kids.  I got a much needed family fix!

We also went to one of our favorite places to spend a vacation…Mt. Rainier.  You can see a few photos from previous trips by clicking here and here.

This time, I am going to share a lot of photos, so this will be a picture heavy post.  In fact, the next couple of blog posts will be picture heavy.   My good camera bit the dust some time ago, and has never been replaced, but the pocket camera does a decent job.

There is no internet/cell service at Mt. Rainier, but visiting in October is well worth the disconnect from the rest of the world!

In the past, Hubby and I have camped with a tent, but on this trip we stayed at the lodge in Longmire.

The mountain was out!  This is the view when standing in front of the lodge.  As you can see, the weather was great!

We drove up to Paradise and spent time hiking up there.  One can spend days at Paradise as there are several trails to choose from.

The weather is quite changeable.  A snowstorm breezed through on the mountain while we were hiking.

Yes, the mornings were quite cool, but the fall color and majesty of the park are well worth the visit!

October OMG 2018

Dark green and sage are the RSC18 colors for September, and I will be piecing three 5 inch blocks for the Squared Away Sampler project.  You can see my progress so far this year by clicking here.

Remember the Butterfly quilt project?

Hannah's Butterfly Garden

I posted about it here.  The applique is fused, but not stitched.  For my second goal, I hope to complete the applique by stitching all of the pieces down.  I plan on using a satin stitch around the edges.

I won’t have a lot of time to complete sewing goals this month, since I plan on a week of R & R, and the rest of the month belongs to the day job.  We’ll see how much I can accomplish.

September OMG 2018 Update

It is time to report on those September sewing goals!

I completed my three blocks for the RSC18 Squared Away Sampler, and you can find that post (and information about the sampler) by clicking here.

I am so happy to report that I have finished my President’s Book fabric pages!

In fact, I have completed a tome, not just a book!  This thing is big!

I am going to have to come up with a plan to display it in my sewing space.  This book is very special to me, since life took a turn and I have not been able to spend time with these precious quilting friends.  Some have moved on, and some have passed on as well.  But I have wonderful memories each time I look at these pages.

Another goal was scrap control.  I did cut my scraps into usable strip sizes.

Fabric Scraps

The strips are sorted by color and size and stored in plastic bags in bins.
