July 2022 OMG Update

The 365 Challenge task in July was to sew the light blocks to the quilt flimsy.

365 Challenge

My flimsy is quite large now, about 72 inches.

Those of you who are familiar with this project know that I have added sashing and some filler blocks.

It certainly didn’t need to be enlarged, so why am I doing this?

365 Challenge

From a design perspective, I like the look of the sashing. I like the way that it outlines the blocks.

From a technical perspective, the sashing is keeping all of those block seams from ‘popping’…I know that they are secure until I add another round.

Also, I find that adding the sashing is helping me to keep the quilt square. So many seams…so many pieces…so many opportunities for wavy edges!

I need all of the help that I can get!

I also sewed more 3.5″ dark blocks this month.

I am pretty impressed with myself that I have kept up with this project!

June 2022 OMG Update

My OMG for June is the same as all of the previous months this year, and for the next 6 months as well. Not to fall behind working on the 365 Challenge quilt designed by Kathryn Kerr!

365 Challenge

So far, so good!

I am not aiming for perfection (Why aim for the unreachable?), but I am hoping to improve my piecing skills.

Having said that, those last 2 blocks in the photo are my attempts at producing the perfect block. Ha, ha!

I made the darker block first, and it came out too big. There is no way to square it down without losing the points! I remade the block, using a different method, and it is still too big! Argh!

Rather than be frustrated and obsessive about this block, I am going to set it aside. If I need the block when it comes time to sew the top, then I will make a different block (the choices are unlimited and quilting should be fun)!
