I have hand stitched the tulips, fruit, birds and kitty to the borders of Garden Baskets.

A little detail has been added, too.

There are a billion buds and leaves to stitch to the borders. That is going to take some time.

My Step-Mom gave me a small pack of fat quarters recently, and asked if I would make an Iris wall-hanging for her.

She has never asked me for anything, so I am delighted to take on this project!

I chose a hand-dyed piece of fabric (one that I dyed several years ago) that I thought would work well for the background. I also found a free coloring page for inspiration.

I have a tracing paper overlay and I am using Steam-A-Seam 2. I like Steam-A-Seam 2 because it allows me to reposition pieces until I am ready to press them permanently into place.

I am using a mix of hand-dyes, the fat quarters that my Step-Mom gave me, and a few prints that I have in my stash.

I am liking how it looks!

It will be ready for thread painting soon. However, Betty Boop is still in the hospital (it has been a month now). It seems that replacement parts are hard to get. So I guess the Iris will stay on the design wall for a while and it is back to leaves and buds for the Garden Basket quilt for me.

Etiquette teaches the distinct elegance of demeanor. ― P.S. Jagadeesh Kumar

I have a different idea of elegance. I don’t dress like a fop, it’s true, but my moral grooming is impeccable. I never appear in public with a soiled conscience, a tarnished honor, threadbare scruples, or an insult that I haven’t washed away. I’m always immaculately clean, adorned with independence and frankness. I may not cut a stylish figure, but I hold my soul erect. I wear my deeds as ribbons, my wit is sharper then the finest mustache, and when I walk among men I make truths ring like spurs. ― Edmond Rostand, Cyrano de Bergerac

A Stroll in the Garden

“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.” ― John Lubbock, The Use Of Life

“Ease your mind earth child, your expecting too much of yourself. Acceptance comes in waves and today you may be drowning but tomorrow you could conquer the entire ocean. Take each day as it comes and flow into it’s course, sometimes control isn’t the only option. Sit down, rest and re group for a while – you owe yourself that much.”― Niki Rowe

“God never asked us to meet life’s pressures and demands on our own terms or by relying upon our own strength. Nor did He demands that we win His favor by assembling an impressive portfolio of good deeds. Instead, He invites us to enter His rest.”― Charles R. Swindoll

“Listen to your soul and protect it always. When you are completely exhausted , please rest. When your soul is so tired, this is when your personal power is at the greatest risk for attacks, not only externally but internally. It is okay to take care of you, rest, get back up, and then continue to move forward.” ― Christine E. Szymanski
