Kanaskat Palmer State Park

Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Last week, I had the extreme pleasure of spending a few days in Sumner, Washington, with my sister, son and his family.  I didn’t know that Sumner (incorporated in 1891) is the Rhubarb Pie Capital of the World!

While there, I was treated to a hike in Kanaskat Palmer State Park.

Whitewater rafting and kayaking down the Green River Gorge are two popular activities here.

Hiking, fishing, picnicking and camping are other fun things to do at this 320 acre park.

Or, if this is your thing, you could just throw rocks into the river like my four year old grandaughter!

Photo Friday – Mushrooms at Big Meadow Lake

I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in. ~John Muir, 1913, in L.M. Wolfe, ed., John Muir, John of the Mountains: The Unpublished Journals of John Muir, 1938

One of Hubby’s and my favorite places to canoe and hike is at Big Meadow Lake.  It is peaceful and an awesome home for all sorts of wildlife…deer, moose, cougar, bear, ducks, eagles and more.  Although power boats are allowed, we’ve rarely been disturbed by them when paddling.

A hike is great any day, but this particular rainy October day (You don’t mind a bit of reminiscing do you?), we hiked and came across many varieties of mushrooms.  I don’t know the names of any, but that doesn’t make the enjoyment of them any less.  Here’s a sampling from that hike:

Mt. Rainier Photos

“Pleasure is the flower that passes; remembrance, the lasting perfume. ” ~Jean de Boufflers

Hubby and I recently repainted our living room and the walls are looking a bit bare.  So we thought it would be fun to put up our favorite photos from our many hiking/camping trips to Mt. Rainier.

I’ve been busy editing and ordering prints that will soon be decorating our walls.

Enjoy the show!
