Last Christmas in July Challenge Update

I haven’t made any more progress on the Christmas Lone Star.

But I have managed to sandwich and quilt the seven table mats.

I really thought that was as far as I was going to get, but I got them all bound, too!

It has been a productive month!

Christmas in July Challenge Update

Christmas Lone Star

Last week, I completed the free motion quilting in the diamonds of the Christmas Lone Star.

This week, I free motion quilted a simple up and down line design in the red sashing.

You can see the texture on the back of the quilt.

I have to admit, it does feel nice to be moving this old UFO forward.

Christmas in July has also motivated me to work on gifts.

I have seven hexagon table toppers (or placemats, if you like) sewn together. I talked about this pattern in my previous post.

I am feeling pretty smart finally using up some very old fabric to make these cute toppers.

In keeping with the use-it-up theme, my next goal is to pull some scrap batting out of a large overflowing tub and piece some frankenbatts for these. If I have time, I will find some backings, too.

Christmas in July Challenge Update

When Kathy issued her Christmas in July Challenge, I said that I would move my Lone Star project forward by quilting the star points this month.

The month is halfway over, and I have completed the challenge.

I used a variegated green, red and white thread to free motion quilt the star.

Since I have completed my goal, and since this challenge is supposed to be for the month, I may just keep going on this project. I may quilt the red inner border.

I may.

But you know how the squirrels are…those masters of distraction.

Wendy posted about a sweet little table topper over at her blog, Pieceful Thoughts.

Turns out that I have all I need to make this topper, including the hexagon ruler, and a shoebox full of fabric squares that were exchanged with guild members (back in the day…like the 90’s to be more specific).

So I did.

Make one, that is.

It is already gifted.

But this is Christmas in July. And I have that loaded shoebox.

So I have already cut out enough hexagons for 7 (seven more) Christmas gifts (and barely made a dent in that box)!

I may spend the rest of July cutting out background pieces.

Thank you, Kathy and Wendy!

Really…I mean it!
