A Stroll in the Garden

The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul. — Alfred Austin

Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace. — May Sarton

July OMG 2018

Time to be bold and announce my new goal for July.

I’m not really going to be all that bold this month, since I am making time for family and sunny days!

I will be piecing three 5 inch blocks for the Squared Away Sampler project.  You can see my progress so far this year by clicking here.

My next goal for the month is to make progress on my President’s book.  Nope, not the President of the United States, but blocks that were given to me for serving my term as a quilt guild president.

I left off turning the blocks into pages for a fabric memory book that I can use for a keepsake.  You can see that post from one year ago here.  (It is a coincidence that I worked on this project in July last year, and have chosen it as my project for July this year.)

President's Blocks

I believe I have 36 pages to quilt.  They shouldn’t take long, and they wouldn’t, if it was winter and I could stay in my cozy home all day long (which I can’t because of the day job).  But it is summer, and the sunshine calls, so I am making this easy on myself.  I am going to quilt six pages for the month.

Speaking of sunshine, there will be time for strolling in the garden!

June OMG 2018 Update

Time to report how I managed my June goals!

Goal 1 was to piece two backing fabrics for two sweet (and very large) quilts; Sugar Town and The Butterfly Garden.

Check.

I took the photos on a very, very bright sunny day, so the color is washed out, but you can still see that this is one large quilt backing!

Goal 2 was to piece strips together to make binding for the Friendship Row by Row quilt. (Click here, here, here, here, and here)

Check.

Mom gave me an old small floral fabric from her stash and it is perfect for this quilt!

I not only prepared the binding, but I finished sewing it to the quilt!
