April OMG 2017 Update

My goal for April was to make eco-friendly shopping bags.

I thought it would be fun to incorporate some orphan blocks into the project.

I used scrap denim and some quilting blocks for the above shopping bags. I wish I would have thought to take the time to quilt the blocks, but I like the bags anyway.

I may have to give this bag to someone with a small child. At least I remembered to add some quilting to the bag. Ha, ha!

The last bag features a hand-painted orphan block. It was a fun little sample to learn some fabric painting techniques, and I am happy to have found a way to use the block!

These bags are durable, can be washed, and used over and over. They are eco-friendly and more fun to use than plastic grocery sacks!

April OMG 2017 Goal

Judy, at Patchwork Times, announced #1 as the UFO goal for April.

I shall be working on #3 as that is the number called for in January, and I worked on #1. Oops.

My goal for the month, then, is to make shopping bags.

My thought is to incorporate some orphan blocks into the project.

This should be fun and easy.

March 2017 OMG Update

My March goal was to come up with a plan to put together a round robin/friendship strip quilt.

You can read about this UFO project here.

I thought I would unify the strips by adding paper pieced trees to the sides of each strip. This would make them all the same width.

You can see the post about my plan here.

I have completed all of the paper-pieced tree blocks.

And sewn them to the ends of each row.

I wish I had a better way to show the rows to you, but I don’t have a design wall.

I don’t have enough floor space either.

I managed to sew 190 four patch blocks this month, too! They are pinned in groups of 10 (easier for me to count them).

My plan is to sew the four patch units into sashing/border rows to add between the friendship rows.

That may not happen for awhile, since the next number drawn for April, may be a different UFO project to work on.

But I feel good.

I’ve made progress!
