Ever since I read about A Doll Like Me in Kathleen McMusing’s blog post, I knew that I wanted to make some doll hospital gowns.
Amy, the compassionate and creative force behind A Doll Like Me, makes dolls for children with limb or other physical differences.
Amy gives the hospital gowns to children who have one of these dolls and are facing a hospital stay. It is very therapeutic playing with their doll, and being able to dress up the doll in a hospital gown is another way to deal with possible fear or anxiety about the stay.
Amy wants to raise awareness of the need for children with physical differences to be able to have true representation in the world. She wants each child to see themselves as enough, to see their own physicality represented in toys and dolls, and to feel accepted.
I made 22 hospital gowns. They are easy and quick to make and I just kept sewing. I had a nice assembly line going.
