Dust Off A Book Blog Hop

Today is my day for the Dust Off A Book Blog Hop.  I hope that you have been enjoying all of the other participants in this hop!

Bea asked the participants if we would show our oldest quilt book.

Mine is ‘The Romance of the Patchwork Quilt in America’ by Carrie A. Hall and Rose G. Kretsinger.

This book is packed full of quilt blocks, colonial quilts and quilts that have been in exhibits…a great historical reference!

You can still find this classic sold by various booksellers and vintage shops.

Having said that, I am not using the oldest quilt book in my collection for this blog hop.

I dusted off ‘American Country Scrap Quilts’ by Liz Porter and Marianne Fons (printed in 1995). I used to watch them faithfully on PBS many years ago.  Those two have done a lot for the world of quilters!

I did a quick search on Google, and you can still find this book.

I chose to make Aunt Sukey’s Choice.  When I saw that pattern, I knew right away that I was going to make it.  I happen to have a large stack of four-patches that were part of multiple swaps from the quilt guild that I was a member of. This was back in the day…like the 90’s days. Perfect!

I didn’t want to make a full-size quilt, so I made nine blocks for a small wall hanging, or table topper.  My version is about 37” square. (Unfortunately, only 9 of that big stack of four-patches got used!)

The primitive, country look isn’t as popular as it was then, but I am pleased to have used up scraps, and I like how this turned out.

Recognize any of these scraps?

Do you still have them in your stash?

I realized after I had begun this project, that I had made a red and white version of Aunt Sukey’s Choice a few years ago (2017).  It is quite different from this one! If you would like to see it, then click here. There is a free project download for Electric Quilt users here!

Thank you, Bea, for hosting this party!

My scrap bags are all full.  Each and every one of them.

I have decided to use Bonnie Hunter’s Scrap User’s System.

It is quite surprising to me how many strips, strings and crumbs I have managed to cram into one bag.

This is going to take a while.

Slow Sunday Stitching

Today is Slow Stitching Sunday.

Before I sit in my easy chair, I am planning to try a new-to-me recipe.  I am making a No-Knead Crusty White Bread recipe (King Arthur Flour website)  that I pinned to My Pinterest Bread Board.  The dough is in the refrigerator, ready for baking later.

I will also spend some time free motion quilting on Aunt Sukey Spins Off , my January 2017 UFO Goal.

After these activities, I’ll be ready for my easy chair.

I’m still embroidering Aunt Bea’s Parlor, block 4.

Happy Sunday!
