June 2022 OMG Update

My OMG for June is the same as all of the previous months this year, and for the next 6 months as well. Not to fall behind working on the 365 Challenge quilt designed by Kathryn Kerr!

365 Challenge

So far, so good!

I am not aiming for perfection (Why aim for the unreachable?), but I am hoping to improve my piecing skills.

Having said that, those last 2 blocks in the photo are my attempts at producing the perfect block. Ha, ha!

I made the darker block first, and it came out too big. There is no way to square it down without losing the points! I remade the block, using a different method, and it is still too big! Argh!

Rather than be frustrated and obsessive about this block, I am going to set it aside. If I need the block when it comes time to sew the top, then I will make a different block (the choices are unlimited and quilting should be fun)!

January completed blocks.

February completed blocks.

March completed blocks.

April completed blocks.

May completed blocks.

May 2022 OMG

I am keeping my May OMG goal simple. Like previous months, I want to complete all of the current month’s blocks, in this case, May’s 365 Challenge blocks…I don’t want to fall behind with the project!

January completed blocks.

February completed blocks.

March completed blocks.

April completed blocks.

That’s it.

And what keeps me from the sewing studio?

How about yard work?

Drainfield

Remember when I visited with my son and fam recently?

Drainfield

We had plumbing issues and needed a repair in the drain field. Of course, we had to wait for the snow to leave, and that took a bit of time.

What a mess, but it is done, and now the work begins to make it a nice yard again!

And then there is this:

We are painting the dining room and kitchen.

Goodbye green and hello very light gray!

So happy to have a bright and fresh new look!

April 2022 OMG Update

Birdhouse Wall Hanging

My April OMG (One Monthly Goal) was to stitch the applique down on my birdhouse UFO. I not only finished the applique, but I finished the entire wall hanging and posted about it here.

My main goal was to be sure that I didn’t fall behind in the 365 Challenge project, and finish all of April’s blocks. In February, we pieced the center block, and in March we made more dark blocks for the first border.

This month, more dark blocks were made (and a few light ones), and the dark border was pieced to the center.

And then I suddenly remembered that I wanted to switch my version up a bit and add sashing. I had to get Jack the Ripper to help me undo all that stitching so that I could insert the sashing (no photo of Jack helping me out…he isn’t shy; just vicious, and I shouldn’t show that on the blog).

My piecing isn’t great (hence the purpose of making this quilt…lots of practicing and never reaching perfection going on). There are cut off points. I’ll just put that out there now, since there are those who look fairly closely.

I will even share some close ups, and maybe some of you who are hesitant because your piecing isn’t perfect might feel better about sharing your wonderful projects! I, for one, love Show and Tell!

We are currently making 6.5″ blocks, instead of the 3.5″ blocks.
