Fort Townsend State Historical Park

On our vacation, while Hubby and I were driving, we saw a sign for Fort Townsend State Historical Park. One of our goals for this trip was to not be in a hurry…to stop and explore instead of passing on by.

So we did.

Most of this fort has been reclaimed by the forest, and is now a beautiful place to camp. Built in 1856, the army fort served to protect settlers, participated in the Pig War in 1859, and as a munitions defusing station in WWII.

The only building still standing is the one that was used to defuse munitions. It is now serving as a group campsite.

A morning walk along the bluff was very pleasant.

I am glad that we took the time to explore this lovely place!

Mount Rainier Part 2

Yes, indeed, I did see a bear. It is the tiny black spot above the m in my watermark in the above photo. I zoomed in to try to get a closer look for all of posterity but, alas, I did not succeed.

How hard to realize that every camp of men or beast has this glorious starry firmament for a roof! In such places standing alone on the mountain-top it is easy to realize that whatever special nests we make – leaves and moss like the marmots and birds, or tents or piled stone – we all dwell in a house of one room – the world with the firmament for its roof – and are sailing the celestial spaces without leaving any track. — John Muir

Mount Rainier

Of All The Fire Mountains Which Like Beacons, Once Blazed Along The Pacific Coast, Mount Rainier Is The Noblest. — John Muir

I was blessed with a vacation, so Hubby and I drove to the West Coast and spent the time visiting our son and his family. While there we went to Mount Rainier, one of my family’s most favorite visited spots. October may just be the best time to visit the mountain for she shines in Autumn splendor!

We drove early to Paradise, and the mountain was shrouded, but the clouds burned off fairly quickly. The mist was in and out all day, but the day was still wonderful!
