Gold is good in its place; but loving, brave, patriotic men are better than gold. -Abraham Lincoln

Homes make patriots. He who has sat by his own fireside with wife and children will defend it. Few men have been patriotic enough to shoulder a musket in defense of a boarding house. The prosperity and glory of our country depend upon the number of people who are the owners of homes. -Robert Green Ingersoll
Among the other values children should be taught are respect for others, beginning with the child’s own parents and family; respect for the symbols of faith and the patriotic beliefs of others; respect for law and order; respect for the property of others; respect for authority. -James E. Faust
True patriotism springs from a belief in the dignity of the individual, freedom and equality not only for Americans but for all people on earth… -Eleanor Roosevelt
Freedom is never really won. You earn it and win it in every generation. -Coretta Scott King
This is the greatest country under the sun. But we must not let our love of country, our patriotic loyalty, cause us to abate one whit in our protest against wrong and injustice. -Madam C. J. Walker
I think on-stage nudity is disgusting, shameful and damaging to all things American. But if I were 22 with a great body, it would be artistic, tasteful, patriotic and a progressive religious experience. –Shelley Winters

The King quote stands out to me – very timely. And the Winters quote gave me a great guffaw. Put them together and they seem to speak the same message, eh?!

I laughed out loud at Winters quote (I have always liked that woman), but then I read it again. Perspective is everything, Laura. Nobody should rest on their laurels, either. King was right…freedom is an ongoing fight. And freedom needs to be defined from one person to another.
I appreciate your daughter’s service, by the way! 🙂
