“The little boy nodded at the peony and the peony seemed to nod back. The little boy was neat, clean and pretty. The peony was unchaste, dishevelled as peonies must be, and at the height of its beauty.(…) Every hour is filled with such moments, big with significance for someone.”

Nothing is more wistful than the scent of lilac, nor more robust than its woody stalk, for we must remember that it is a tree as well as a flower, we must try not to forget this. –Stevie Smith

Umm! I wish your photos could be made ‘scratch and sniff’. I can imagine the scent coming from those lilac blooms. The iris look beautiful too. Hope you get to enjoy some time in the garden this weekend.

What a wonderful idea…scratch and sniff would be fun, Allison! 🙂
There is a lot of rain and work overtime this week, but this weekend is looking promising.

The first iris looks like it is raspberry, or is it my screen? Your photos and quotes would make a lovely book, Laura.😍

You are correct, Kathy…two different varieties of mini iris. I also have a yellow, but it is not in bloom yet.
Thank you so much for the compliment! I guess the blog is my book. 🙂

I looked up Robertson Davies and What’s Bred in the Bone – never heard of the author or books before reading your quote. Have you read the Cornish Trilogy? From an artblog summary of the book, it looks like it’s something I might check out. Thanks for the ‘lead’ on a possible new author to explore!
Oh and those flowers? A sight for these very sore eyes, thanks for the photos!

Laura, I find quotes through Google (is there any other way). I had never heard of Robertson Davies, nor read the Cornish Trilogy. Sometimes I do happen on something that looks worth pursuing. 🙂
Your welcome. Those flowers are a sight for my very sore eyes as well! 🙂
